Services
Elgar, Grosvenor and Harewood have been beautifully refurbished to an excellent standard providing gold award luxury five star self catering accommodation. These traditional stone buildings were built in 1840. Each of the 3 cottages are entirely self contained and can be booked and enjoyed by couples, friends or families.
This is a fabulously bright cottage with great views of the sunrise and sunset; the parkland views are simply stunning. The interior designed sitting room is stylish and comfortable with a dining area perfect for a romantic meal. The fully fitted and equipped kitchen, which includes a microwave and dishwasher, has views over the parkland and valley beyond.
Grosvenor nestles between Elgar and Harewood overlooking the parkland from one side and the courtyard from the other. The fully fitted kitchen, which includes a microwave and dishwasher, leads onto the dining area and spacious sitting room to make this a very comfortable and sociable cottage. A stable door leads from the sitting room to the private walled courtyard garden where you can dine al fresco or star gaze.
Leaf Peeping is a term growing in popularity here in the UK which has come from North America where people enjoy travelling to view and photograph the changing season, as the foliage turns from summer greens to the yellows, reds and golds of autumn. With over 20 million trees spread across 200 square miles, the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean is a heaven for leaf peepers.

We weren’t sure what to expect from “5 star” self catering but we’re certainly we’re not disappointed! Beautiful accommodation; traditional yet modern, well equipped and set in delightful, well-tended grounds. Nicky (and George) were attentive but never intrusive hosts and made us fee very welcome. They have plenty of local knowledge to do ensure you have access to everything you need whether you’re looking escape or go on adventures (and this is a great base from which to explore both sides of the border with walks, historic sites and beautiful towns and villages). Thay left me a Birthday present and card, a lovely touch. Thank you. In these strange and difficult times its importance to go somewhere, where you feel safe and this is a very safe place. We can honestly say that our stay at Wharton has been the simply the best ever self catering holiday ever. Harewood was sparkling clean, cosy and beautifully presented. Nothing was too much trouble for Nicky and George, they were simply a delight. In these 'difficult' times we'd have no hesitation whatsoever in returning to this lovely part of the UK to stay once again at Wharton Lodge. Those 5* reviews don't exaggerate!

The Cottages are just off the main A40 road between Ross-on-Wye and Gloucester, so there is easy road access to all the major tourist destinations in the area. The cottages are ideally located to explore the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley in particular.
The Cottages are beautifully appointed and luxurious with all the mod cons - and the welcome basket of foodstuffs is a particularly nice touch.
It is very peaceful and quiet, with lovely gardens to explore, and stunning views out across the countryside.
The owner, Nicky, is very helpful and friendly, both before the stay with any visitor queries
