Portland Medical Practice was established in the 1920's and has evolved into a modern general practice with consulting rooms in Kilmarnock and at The Hurlford Clinic. Our main surgery in Kilmarnock was completely renovated in 2006 and provides a pleasant purpose-built environment for patients and staff alike. Both premises are fully disability compliant. At our Kilmarnock surgery there is a disabled parking bay, a convenient council car park and also on street parking. The Hurlford Clinic has its own private car park.
Services
Despite the easing of some restrictions, the pandemic is not over. GP Practices are still open and we are now busier than ever before. Our Practice is not yet able to deliver the same level of service as we did before the pandemic. It is vital that we protect staff, patients and people in the communities by keeping physical contact to a minimum.
You're more likely to be successful in your attempts to quit smoking if you plan ahead. This includes preparing and working towards a specific quit date. Increase your chances of a successful quit with the help of stop smoking medication and support from a stop smoking advisor.
Denise Killin a stop smoking advisor from the Quit Your Way stop smoking service works at Portland Medical Practice each Thursday morning from 8.00am-12midday with our patients who are seeking advice on reducing exposure to second hand smoke or who wish to stop smoking.

Our Practice has an extensive Health Care Preventative Medical Service, run by the Practice Nurses and the Doctors. Annual Influenza Vaccinations are recommended for many people at the start of winter. Clinics will commence late autumn each year for those over 65 or with a recognised risk factor. Please contact reception to make an appointment at one of these clinics if you are eligible to receive the vaccine.
These are offered to our patients in the event of a medical emergency where there are no other appointments for a clinician available. These appointments are fitted into an already full clinic for the Duty Doctor who is also on call. Therefore, a waiting time of up to 1 hour should be expected in the event of an emergency home visit, or emergency within the Practice.
The simplest and quickest way to order your repeat medication is by using Patient Access which links directly to your Prescription record at the Practice. If you are not registered for Patient Access please contact the Practice to request your activation code. You can then use your activation code to register with Patient Access.
