Services
We are now in our sixteenth year of trading, here at The Art of Meat and thankfully we are still enjoying continued success with our range of novel and contemporary products made from the finest locally sourced meats. After leaving a career in Molecular Biology, owner Jon West created a modern take on the traditional butcher's shop.
HG Blake based in Norfolk. For quality and depth of flavour, we choose native breeds of beef cattle which are sourced from East Anglia thus minimising food miles. Utilising the natural beauty and rich fertile grazing, synonymous with the area for centuries, and marrying traditional grazing with the production of premium livestock.
Alongside our standard sausage - the Hobson's Choice - favoured by the renowned food critic Mathew Fort, we stock all of the usual products you would expect to find in a butcher's shop, from traditional Sunday roasting joints to other multi-award winning sausages. All of our sausages are manufactured on site in small batches from a minimum of 85% free range Dingley Dell Pork.
We produce our own dry cured bacon but in times of high demand we also use some dry cured bacon from our ham supplier Broadland Hams who use only the finest British pork, cured to our 25 year old Norfolk recipe. Importantly, it contains no added water. Less than 3% of pigs farmed in Britain are actually free range, and we are proud to stock free range Blythburgh pork from one of East Anglia's best producers, Jimmy Butler.
We stock organically produced lamb from Shimpling Park Farm and HG Blake in Suffolk. HG Blake's English Lamb is sourced from carefully selected local farmers while Shimpling Park, a carbon negative farm, are proud producers of organic clover fed lamb. Our sheep graze only on organic grass and clover 365 days a year as part of our crop rotation.

I was looking for a butcher that will mince specific cuts of meat for burgers. Surprisingly it was a bit hard to find but then I called the art of meat. The person on the phone was very friendly and was happy to do it but suggested I should try their own burger mix. He also explained what cuts are in their mixture.
The meat was amazing, perfect meat/fat ratio and great price as well

Good Quality Food and Service
The staff are friendly and informative.
The meat and poultry are really fresh with high quality. That includes the imported processed food.
No glamorous image. No clever marketing. Just a local butcher selling good quality food with reasonable and affordable plrice. Less is more.

Sells dry cure bacon. A good variety of sausages. Lovely beef, different cuts Pork chops & belly are great. Staff are polite and intetested in what you want and even plan to do with the meat. Again staff are informative and offer time and information with being asked. I.e the next time certain cuts will be available.
I'd give them 6 out of 5 if I could just for effort and being brave to stock good quality items for their customers.

Friendly people and wonderfully delicious and fresh products. Everything we have tried has been delightful.
Note for those from the USA: the smoked streaky bacon here is the closest bacon we have found to quality bacon from the USA in texture and flavor. We have tried a LOT of other streaky bacons in the UK and they all tend to be leaner and have a different flavor. This bacon is reminiscent of the BEST US bacon!

I’ve been a regular customer for almost a year now, but I wish I’d found this place sooner! The staff is friendly and helpful. The owner, Jon, is a food enthusiast and that’s made evident by the amount of thought he puts into the marinades and special sausages on offer. The steak mince is also fantastic (I’m pretty sure they supply to Steak & Honour)!

I was very disappointed with the quality of beef fillet I purchased from this place. Freezing burn marks were clearly visible after unpacking the piece at home. I'm more than happy to pay extra for quality (it was £39 for 800g of fillet) but what I've got from this shop just wasn't cutting it.
Shame, because it's my local butcher, but I'll never be going back.

Nothing but great words to say for the products, and the owner is a wonderful and so interesting person.
I am actually living abroad, but every time I visit Cambridge I always buy some meat to remember the good eats I had there! Last time I even brought my favourite flat irons steaks back home on a flight!
Any chance Jon would be willing to share the origin of the flat iron marinade ? This would make me so happy 🙂

Fantastic Butcher! For my son's 18th we were cooking for 24 people. I emailed around and asked for good and affordable steak. Not only was Jon the first butcher to respond to the email request, he also gave me the best offer. Jon recommended Flat Iron steak; I had never heard of it, but took his advice (it was a LOT cheaper than the sirloin another butcher had recommended on the same request). We BBQ'd the steaks and they were absolutely gorgeous! Couldn't have been better. All the guests commented on how nice the meat was.
