Come to Alter Rock, Derby's premier climbing centre for some of the best roped climbing and bouldering in Derby. And that's not all, you can also try our Aerial obstacle course - the Air Walk, and our clever Labyrinth cave system inside the walls. Ideal for individuals or groups come along and try what we have to offer for an activity afternoon or evening and ages from toddlers to pensioners.
Bouldering is climbing that is done without ropes which are replaced by a large crash mat at the base of the wall. Bouldering walls are typically much lower than roped walls, the bouldering at Alter Rock is 4m high. Bouldering problems can range in difficulty from climbs not much harder than a ladder to climbs using finger tip sized hand and foot holds.
A fun one hour experience to see what indoor climbing is all about. Your own instructor and all kit is provided and you can have a go at roped climbing, abseiling, bouldering, Air Walk and cave. Your session you choose. A three-hour session to learn essential indoor rock climbing skills so you can climb safely.
Two hours for 15 per person lets you choose from all the activities in the centre, and do as many as the time allows. Whether you are planning a kid's birthday party, treating teenagers or celebrating a milestone 16th, 30th or 50th, our birthday party ideas will keep you entertained. And it is all indoors so there's no need to worry about the Derbyshire weather!
You can post what you like as long as its to do with climbing, its funny, inspirational or all 3. There will be setting information and maybe tips on how to climb. It is a platform to ask questions or give advice. Almost every week there is a new set at Alter Rock. This will be either long or short ropes or bouldering including traverses.

This is an excellent climbing facility and would definitely recommend. Reason I'm not giving it the full 5 is that an a couple of occasions the modest carpark at the back of the church has been filled by non climbers. I'm not sure if they own the carpark, but it's a pain when you have to turn back because as there's no obvious alternative.

We did the 3hr beginner course with Sam. Firstly what incredible value for money! Sam was fab, super friendly, patient and approachable. Happy to go over things as many times as we needed and made us feel very much at ease. Couldn’t recommend this course enough for people wanting to learn the basics of climbing. We’ll be back to practice!

Great, I loved it even though we went on a hot day we managed pretty well. Lots of different walls and difficulties. Just the kind of space you expect when you want to got climbing. The member of staff who was supervising us was really nice and knew what he was doing and we were safe :) really enjoyed my time there and it was just what I expected

What a lovely afternoon climbing at Alter Rock in Derby. A very patient instructor for us and our 5 children. We did the parent and child sessions where we assist in the ropes etc. I was so shocked and surprised at what a lovely place it was. The kids loved the caving area. 10/10 for this place. Would highly recommend!!!
