We are a group of small animal practices covering North and South Tyneside as well as South Northumberland, first established in 1973. We are passionate about animal care and our skilled team of veterinarians and veterinary nurses are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for your animals.
Because we love animals and strive to provide excellent continuity of care, we offer appointments at our hospital in North Shields seven days a week and provide our own 24-hour emergency care. To help keep us all safe, please do not attend the practice unless you have a pre-booked appointment, or have arranged to collect food/medication.

Services
Ayres Veterinary Hospital has been established since 1973. We are always working towards the highest possible standards and to prove this we have achieved Hospital status with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Practice Standards Scheme. At our main site in North Shields we are staffed 24-hours a day, 365 days a year to offer the very best in first opinion, referral and emergency treatment.
Here at Ayres Veterinary Hospital, we're very proud to have so many enthusiastic and dedicated individuals working in our friendly practice. We are all passionate about animals and their well-being, from our veterinary surgeons and qualified nurses to our essential support staff. Highly trained and caring, each of us has a role to play in making this a special practice for you to visit with your pet.
Our team of highly dedicated and experienced veterinary surgeons and vet nurses are devoted to your pet's wellbeing. Your pets are always our priority. We all have our own pets and work hard to provide the same service to you that we would want for our own much-loved animals. At our surgeries we provide continuity of care, working with you to provide effective and high quality treatment.
Many of our patients are receiving long term treatment and are eligible for 'repeat prescriptions'. Usually, we see these patients every six months, although for some conditions and often at the start of a new treatment, this may be more frequently. If your pet is due more of their usual medication, please contact us no less than 48-hours before you would like to collect this.
In the event of an emergency during our normal opening hours please call your usual surgery and you will be advised what to do next. We offer our own 24 hour emergency service. If your call is during the night or at the weekend whilst our clinics are closed, please contact our North Shields hospital on 01912 586886.

Called regarding my dog who had an accident on walks and needed urgent medical attention, just to be told they are too busy and to contact the out of hours number of our registered vet (out of hours vet hospital for our registered vet is 15 miles further away). The woman who answered the phone was rude and unhelpful and frankly seemed insulted that I had dared to call them regarding an out of hours veterinary emergency. I will never use this practice for either urgent or non-urgent veterinary care.

Critical: Professionalism
Called for advice to then be lectured on the fact I should be calling my own vet (they’re closed) or on that basis they should have their own OOH service. I was literally just looking for advice from people that are supposed to care about animals. As I said on the phone. Thanks for nothing.

My experience of this particular surgery is first class All the staff are friendly and you are always made to feel welcome which you would expect anyway The office/admin staff are really good and professional and are more than helpful The vets themselves are first class they tell you in lay man's terms what if anything is the problem and the way forward and more importantly put you at ease On a lighter note I tell everyone that what I notice about everyone at Ayres treat the animals as if they belong to them such is their dedication I would recommend this vets 100%

Ayres have looked after our herd of Guinea Pigs for a few years now. Our eldest experienced a rapid decline in health the other night, and the management of our case was superb. Within 20 minutes of the call, our little man was comfortable. Thanks to everyone at Ayres for their care, compassion and commitment to our animals (friends). I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Fantastic vets! The vets and support staff are friendly, professional and know their stuff. I had to take my dog in for an emergency tooth extraction and wasn't changed out of hours despite it being late.
The healthy pet club is well worth the money for the flea treatments, shots, and regular nail clippings.
