Any condition that affects the nerve of the eye or the brain like strokes or trauma can result in a loss of areas of peripheral vision. This is clearly a dangerous thing for drivers or even pedestrians crossing the road if, for example, the left side of both eyes is missing. Therefore, we do carry out routine check on most people over 40 and others who are potentially at risk of loss of side vision.

If you're an existing patient, don't worry as all prescription records are kept on file so there is no need for you to be sure of your prescription. If you're a new patient however, we will have to undergo an eye exam to determine your prescription, unless you have an in-date, valid prescription from a qualified practitioner.

In short, the definition of Hypermetropia (long sightedness) is where the eye is shorter than normal or the cornea is too flat, meaning that light rays focus behind the retina. Light rays from close objects such as pages of a book cannot be focused on clearly by the retina. Someone with hypermetropic eyes may find their vision is blurred when looking at objects near to them, and for vision to be clearer when looking at far away objects.

I have been a customer/patient of this optician for over 35 years and have always been delighted with the personal service and care. Unfortunately, this seems to have gone terribly wrong...contact lens solutions have been withheld as it was decided I should be paying £3 more for my monthly lenses bringing the total cost each month to £27, my yearly eye check is now classed as a contact lens check (free) AND an eye check (charged £30 which I have never had to pay before) despite me having just the routine tests I have always had. My sister had her lenses withheld until she had an eye test, despite
