Fly Cup Catering is a Scottish charity (SC029395) based in Inverurie set up for adults with learning disabilities (trainees) within the catering industry. Established in 2000, Fly Cup has helped dozens of young adults with learning disabilities find their way into the challenging world of employment.
Fly Cup Catering's Mission Statement is to "assist adults with learning disabilities, including school leavers, to have a fulfilling role in their local communities by providing professional catering training and a path to employment opportunities within the catering sector." To provide trainees with the opportunity to achieve nationally recognised catering qualifications.
We work in partnership with Aberdeenshire City Council and Aberdeen City Council to provide a number of places for trainees within both areas. This scheme enables individuals and organisations to contribute towards the costs of a trainee place. The catering activities we undertake (private functions, business lunches etc) and our coffee shop provides additional income which is used to further develop and extend the services and training we offer.
Geoff and Carolyn are parents of a daughter with learning disabilities and fully understand how the support systems works. They have run their own business successfully for years in the field of resilience and counselling. Geoff covers emergency response for day to day events at the charity site and Carolyn provides staff training on disability awareness and resilience and both are relentlessly supportive to the charity.
We are always looking for volunteers to support our charity, whether that be helping in our coffee shop, kitchen or bakery, attending the mile a day walk with our trainees, promoting at events, supporting our trainees or becoming a Friend of Fly Cup. If you can spare from as little as two hours per week and wish to support adults with learning disabilities please contact us.
