Graduated in Opthalmic Optics from Bradford University in 1973. After completing all of his professional qualifications, Martin went on to work at Moorfields eye hospital, London where he worked on a full and part time basis for ten years. Upon leaving Moorfields, having attained the status of Senior Optician, he went on to start his own practice in Stevenage.
The practice is designed to fulfil all aspects of modern eye care, from dispensing and manufacturing complete spectacles and contact lenses to full eye examinations. We have the ability to manufacture complete spectacles within one hour using our computerised lathe. We also posses the ability to scan the inside of your eye for any abnormalities including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, by using our laser scanning microscope.
The examination is the most important part of any practice and has improved over the years due to the introduction of modern equipment. Up until recently, the gold standard for examining the eye health was using a fundus camera. This is now regarded as old fashioned and has been replaced in modern hospital eye departments by optical coherence tomography (OCT).
We're very proud to announce that we now possess in-house optical coherence tomography (OCT). We do charge extra for an eye scan as it isn't covered by the standard NHS eye test. This test is a must if you have a family history of eye disease, are currently being monitored or just care for your eyes.
