You can take that 1st lesson when you are 17. In order to do this you will need to get yourself a valid provisional license before your lessons commence. You can apply for your provisional license by completing the DL1 application form that is available online or from the main Post Office branches, the local Vehicle Licensing Offices or your local MOT centre.
The theory test is made up of a section of multiple choice questions & a section of hazard perception clips. You need to be successful in both sections of this test in order to obtain the pass certificate. It is essential that you prepare well for each of these sections.
There are numerous study materials available to prepare you for the theory test and hazard perception tests and our instructor will steer you in the right direction so you get the best available. Before the test begins you'll be given on screen instructions on how the test works. You can also choose to go through a practice session of the multiple choice questions to get used to the layout of the test and how the computer touch screens work.

The practical driving test includes an eyesight check, safety questions and about 40 minutes of driving which will include a short section of independent driving. The practical test will include an eyesight check (if you fail this, your test will not continue). The eyesight test requires you to read a number plate from a certain distance away.
