Welcome to this landmark period pub set in the pretty village of Watton at Stone in rural Hertfordshire. The pub's origins date back to the 15th century and the story goes that Catholic priests hiding from Henry VIII's guards during the Dissolution of the Monasteries would take refuge up the chimney of the huge inglenook fireplace that sits at the heart of the building.

A chance to meet up with family, being mid way between us.
Good menu options, although on the night there were no pizza on offer (a fair chunk of the menu), but plenty of other things on the menu to tempt us.
The food is a good standard of pub grub, with the benefit of a nice open fire, and good friendly service.

We live in the village and normally love The Bull but such disappointing service today. We had a table booked for 15 with family and friends who had all travelled quite a distance. We pre-ordered as requested but the service was so slow - awkward and embarrassing in front of the guests we had invited!
The food was an excellent standard but the front of house team were young and inexperienced. Such a shame!

Must comment , went yesterday and the food was excellent. However, they have a terrible problem with their drains and the smell was awful. We sat outside and moved once the smell very strong and not acceptable. This urgently needs addressing and for this reason only will not return there. Not good for their custom

Great atmosphere and fantastic food. The mega burger was absolutely enormous. I have a good appetite but even I struggled a little to finish (wasn't defeated, but felt full for a LOOOOOONG time after.
Friendly staff, and very hard working as there was a wedding reception happening in the gardens at the same time.
