No one knows who invented the game, as we know it today, or where it was first played; Aberdeen, Edinburgh or St. Andrews? In 1827 The Aberdeen Golf Club adopted a Lincoln Green player's coatee soon to be followed by a more usual scarlet version in 1828, in the latter case with a description of the button to be worn.
Refurbished in a sympathetic manner, Royal Aberdeen's clubhouse maintains the traditional ambience of a gentlemens' club. With a formal lounge and dining room supplemented by a casual lounge and dining area, Royal Aberdeen's catering is of the highest standard and praised by members and visitors alike.
Balgownie is one of the truest linksland layouts in golf. It's a course to test the better golfer, one who can accommodate the many variable conditions this arduous links can throw at you. Balgownie's front nine holes rank amongst the very best in the world. No two are the same within a natural ecosystem, interspersed with rich turf and tight rolling fairways, that is a sheer delight to behold.
The Club today boasts a healthy membership of both local UK and overseas members. Promoting and encouraging the junior category is also high on the list of the Club's priorities. There is consistently a waiting list for full membership. Since its earliest beginnings Royal Aberdeen Golf Club has promoted the game, in the Granite City, by bringing major players to the club.
