With a tradition of hospitality dating back more than 700 years, we warmly welcome you to The Shaven Crown. This medieval hostelry, one of the oldest inns in the country, is set opposite the church and village green in the heart of the picturesque Cotswold village of Shipton under Wychwood.
The Shaven Crown is perfectly located for exploring the Cotswolds, with Blenheim Palace and the historic towns of Burford, Witney, Cheltenham and Oxford nearby. The Shaven Crown was founded in the 14th century by the monks of Bruern Abbey to house pilgrims and as a hospice for the poor and needy. Following the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century the Crown seized the hotel and Queen Elizabeth I later used it as a royal hunting lodge.

Lovely building, our room and bathroom were clean and nicely kitted out. Even a 2nd double bedded room attached.
Breakfast was very nice and well presented and a good choice. We were able to have dinner on the 2nd night which was excellent and the wine also was pretty good and both sensibly priced. On the first night we had to eat at the Lamb Inn where the food was not a patch on the Shaven Crown and more expensive.
We would highly recommend the Hotel.

We really Enjoyed our stay at the shaven crown.
The place is beautiful, exactly what you'd wish for weekend in the Cotswolds.
Our room was super cute (the crown room) and we loved the style, although the bathroom was a surprise (it's very modern and doesn't really go with the vibe of the hotel).
The breakfast is absolutely gorgeous, full of flavour and well cooked.
Service was great and the owner very helpful. We felt the room could have been cleaner. There was dust in the drawers and a big spider and spiderweb smack in the entrance of the room (yikes), everything else was perfect.

An excellent hotel with a history in a very pretty Cotswold village. The hotel is beautiful with lots of original features which were sensitively preserved during refurbishment a few years ago.The food is excellent, service is professional but friendly and the proprietor , Abilio, is a superb host.Highly reccomended.

Lovely stay in this characterful hotel; you can feel the history around you! Beautiful traditional features - especially in the large hall and courtyard - comfortable room, excellent quality (perfect size) breakfast (probably the best hotel breakfast I've had) and dinner, welcoming hosts with a bit of banter - we will be back!
