Maryann and Hugh Mackenzie, Sgitheanachs returning to Skye after a naval career, initially opened the Old School as a tearoom with television repair shop. It quickly evolved into a popular, family restaurant. Now run by their son John, The Old School continues to serve up Skye and Scotland's best produce with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, in what is a popular venue for locals and visitors alike.

Though Seasonal, The Old School is a busy place - in front and behind the scenes there is a sizable team without whom The Old School would come to a grinding halt! We are lucky to have members of staff that have been working with us for 5, 10 and 20 years, as well as some new friendly faces. We are all happy to help in any way we can with dietary requirements, allergies or information on this beautiful part of the world that we live in.

Highly recommend! Great food, homely feel and simple but really well made. Could do with a little more lighting in the restaurant.

Weird name, fantastic food and great service. We went full sea food and it was all perfectly cooked. Hand cut chips were a highlight. Desert was also excellent, even the sticky toffee pudding was 10/10!

Fantastic dining experience. Food was excellent with generous portions - the crispy duck starter in particular was perfectly balanced and delicious. Service was wonderful. Our main server Floriel thoughtfully arranged for the starter to be served on two plates because partner and I decided to split the dish. Would definitely revisit if we’re back at Skye again!

Amazing food! Huge portions! Excellent service! Our first meal on Skye and it’s safe to say this place has set the bar high. Worth stopping by for meal here. We’ll definitely be back when we visit next.

Rudest front of house I've ever had, just plain disrespectful and mean. I fully appreciate that you may be fed up with tourists but there's no need to be rude to people being perfectly nice. Read the other comments, I'm not the only one who experienced this. The waiting staff on the other had were extremely nice and polite, rather the contrast. So if you call or turn up and the front of house is being rude don't be too put off, you'll only need to deal with her for a couple of minutes.
The food was overall average, some things were awesome such as the Cullen skink, others were a little lacking

Loved everything about this place. Food was great with multiple vegan options including one special and service was so efficient that we were done start to finish (including paying the bill) in 1.25 hours. Really good experience. Only thing I'd say they could have better kids options but my kids were happy though with their chicken nuggets! :) PS they also have veg haggis.

Absolutely amazing. Stumbled across this gem when we were on our way to Neist lighthouse. Lunch was so good that we came back for dinner! Very cool building, great relaxing ambiance. All of the food was top notch… strawberry meringues for dessert were my favorite. Staff was incredible. Do yourself a favor and make sure you stop by this lovely restaurant for a meal!

Nice guy at the bar, just a nice manner. He gave us some mini bread rolls to mop up some of the lovely sauce of the mussels dish. Great food. Dining in looked impressive but we hadn't a table booked so we were in the marquee out the front which was still great in that we got to eat in, when all of skye seems fully booked in summer. EMPTY PLATES. Yum food.

A beautifully executed salad. I'd eat a whole plate. Fish was good... Almost great. The fish just barely done with a darker crust almost like oil was too hot but good overall.
Wonderful front of house service!!
