The hotel was conveniently located near the underground station at Earl’s Court. The room we received did not look like the photos advertised. Our room had a strange smell and the was extremely small. The bed was uncomfortable and we did not manage to sleep much due to this. I understand the price was very inexpensive for a London hotel, but the quality was poor.

For the price, stay anywhere else. Room was dirty, bathroom old, beds did not have fitted sheet, I found myself waking up on the bare mattress (GROSS). Towels are about the size of a hand towel and feels like sand paper. The manager sits at the front door and smokes ALL DAY - so be prepared to inhale and smell like cigarettes as you come and go.
Room was super hot, I asked where the A/C was that was advertised - nope...no A/C. I asked for a fan and you would have thought I was asking for his first born.
Location was great - that is about it.

If you're looking for that super sketchy, dirty motel feeling then this might be the place for you. Think of a bed stuffed in a closet with no windows and the ever lasting scent of mold and you pretty much have the St Mark Hotel. If you stay here also make sure the that you get a room where the locks work or you may have some unexpected guest during the evenings. The front desk staff (4 of them sitting on a chair and couch while you walk in) didn't give me a strong sense of security either. I'm convinced they were there more to socialize than to look after the guests. They do have

Cute street, very close to the Earl's Court station. Convenient to stores and bars. The hotel is on a block that is full of hotels. I am certain this is not the nicest. These are budget accommodations. We needed a room at the last minute and were put in a basement level room that smelled of mold and mildew. The shower was barely large enough for me to turn around in and had a crack in the basin. Nice that they have free breakfast tho!

You get what you pay for. It costs a hell of a lot to stay at most places in central London, but i found this place very reasonable. Easy to book, check in and check out. Decent sized room. Clean, tidy. Nice little private toilet/shower room en suite. Good budget hotel. Didn't indulge in the breakfast due to specialist diet requirements.Well located for tube and other sights in the area. Would stay again and recommend to friends.

We got off the tube at Earl Court around 10pm and after about 5 minutes, were standing on an adorable street lined with brick four-story buildings-- all hotels and apartments. If this is London, I'm in love, I said to myself.
The St. Mark is a modest hotel, though I was forewarned not to expect luxury if staying in a mid-priced hotel. (Actually by American standards it was pretty pricey.) Our hotel room was on the fourth floor, which means eight sets of stairs. Eight sets of stairs with three 50lb suitcases is QUITE fun... but the guy at the front desk helped us with one.

My quest for affordable and not dodgy London accommodation, Part 1:
Knowing that London ranks as one of the most expensive places to live in, I realized it might take a while until I find a hotel that doesn't rip me off and is both not filthy and centrally located. First try: St. Mark Hotel in Earl's Court.
The area itself is great- lots of shops, restaurants, some pubs; the tube station only a 3 minute walk away, and pretty close to Victoria station.
On the positive side, I only paid £30 per night for a single room (during the week and off-season). That included breakfast (which
