Horne Engineering
Following the invention of the World's First thermostatic steam control valve by our MD's grandfather, The Horne Engineering Company Ltd was founded in 1909. For the first time in history, temperature control of hot water steam boilers (calorifiers) became an automated process; regulating the temperature to 60°C to match demand for hot water.

This valve became known in the market as The Standard Valve and was sold predominantly into fever, work and poor houses of the time - the precursor to today's NHS. In the early 1920s, another World First came with Horne's invention of the hot water blender, which, using the same thermostatic technology, mixed hot water with cold water to deliver warm water at a safe and comfortable temperature.

Since 1909 Horne has pioneered thermostatic control technology for steam and water applications - accurate and reliable temperature control for steam heating and process applications and for domestic water services.

Since our invention in the early 1920s of the world's first thermostatic hot water blending valve, our 'Safe Hot Water' product range now includes thermostatic mixing valves, showers, clinical taps and the In-line thermal disinfection unit, ILTDU.With our invention, in 1909, of the world's first thermostatic steam control valve, the hot water generation process was transformed.
For more than a century, we have been the leading innovator of thermostatic temperature control technology. Our technical and manufacturing expertise along with our deep understanding of our markets and their regulatory requirements, allows us to continually improve and refine our product range.

Our product portfolio includes a broad range of specialised thermostatic mixing valves and thermostatic shower valves developed to precisely address the needs of a variety of niche applications. From the award-winning OPTITHERM thermostatic tap to shower panels and thermostatic mixing valves, our expertise and comprehensive industry knowledge is assured.
We design and manufacture a wide range of thermostatic valves and ancillary fittings for temperature control applications. Our EA-1 steam control valve is often paired with the Horne Steam Injection Heater (SIH) to maintain stored water at a constant temperature. The SIH is an integral part in many industrial sized washing machines, and is also suitable for the rapid heating of storage water.
As part of our ongoing commitment to our customers, we promise that spare parts for all of our products will be kept in stock for a minimum of 10 years following discontinuation of a product component or full assembly. This is a guarantee of our quality control and offers peace of mind. Please visit the relevant product page to access spare part information for Horne steam products.
