The macula is the area at the back of the eye used for seeing fine detail. Macular degeneration is when this area becomes damaged. Most people with macular degeneration, even if it becomes advanced, still keep their edge vision, but may lose the central detail. Some degree of macular degeneration is very common as you get older.
A. Two years is the maximum time between eye tests and is appropriate for most people between the ages of 16 and 70 as recommended by the NHS. Older people, children, those with diabetes or at increased risk of glaucoma should be seen every year. Your optometrist may well recommend an early retest for other reasons or if there is any concern over other conditions such as early cataract.

Wow what customer service. I had a Christmas eve appointment, from the moment we walked in. The staff very friendly and professional. Nothing was too much . The the best thing of all. I got my new glasses with in 2 1/2 hours of walking in. They exceed my expectations. Plus it didn't cost an arm and a leg. My only question is why I didn't come in here before. 😀

Fantastic service from an amazing team! We called to see if we could get toddler glasses the same day and were amazed at how helpful the team were. Kathy helped us over the phone so when we arrived the lenses were ready and within a few minutes Shaun had helped us choose the best frames. 30 minutes later our little boy was fitted with his new glasses! Cannot recommend highly enough.

I've always normally used one of the big chain opticians, but got recommended Millicans from a friend. Considering how indecisive I am they were really accommodating, they have a wide range of glasses and really go that extra mile to make sure you get the right glasses for you. These are definitely my new opticians and I can't recommend them enough.

I've been to a few opticians in Liverpool but I've never been to one so accommodating.
I had an eye test and bought my frames elsewhere but wanted to have lenses put in by Millicans so after the IPD measurement, then sent the frames off (to Ray Ban). When I got them back, I found there was a discrepancy so instead of vary focal, I decided to have my eye test done again but this time order two glasses; one for reading and another for driving. Both Shaun and Jill were absolutely superb in understanding the issue I had with the vary focal and sought to resolve the situation without complaint.

I was sent from my doctor after having flashes of bright light in my left eye, which can be a serious problem. I went straight to the Allerton road branch to make an appointment. I could see the store was really busy, but was fitted in straight away and from there on the service was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. I would fully recommend Millican Opticians to everyone.

Great experience. After having contracted a condition where it's hard for me to be exposed to bright lights (meaning I'll need to constantly wear shades), I went into (almost) every optician in Liverpool to browse for prescription-based sunglasses, and for an overall price comparison; from Blankstone to Boots to Vision-Express to Bennet and Batty's, and then some.
Now all of the opticians just listed and good, I wouldn't discourage going to any of them, however, I just find Millican to be the best, for several reasons:

My experience at Millican's has also been very positive during the last couple of years. Kind and courteous staff combined with prompt and professional service. Millican's branding and logo looks a little old fashioned but then so is the level of service. The staff are certainly courteous, helpful and very well known for being a hard working lot. There seemed to be an abundance of staff with not much to do but I'm not complaining as this meant there was no waiting around to get help.
They stock all the latest popular designer frames and styles including Gucci and Police that you find in the big chains. Their special offers are just as good too with a free second pair of spectacles including bifocals and varifocals. If you try varifocals but
