When a new client first contacts us, we will generally ask them to write down what they want. This becomes the 'brief'. Sometimes it's an A4 page, and occasionally it's a book of text and magazine scraps. Whatever the format, this is the beginning of the process - the client tells us what they would like, or what they need.
What follows is a sequence of meetings and discussions around concept sketches. These are often very high-level blob diagrams that start to look at general issues and which, most importantly, address the brief, but also start to incorporate themes of light, view, sun and environment. Here are two very recent examples of this process, with the final results shown along with the design models and sketches.

Bell Architects has been designing and building bespoke homes for over 15 years. Our work is not just in buildings - often we are asked to assist communities with their Master planning proposals - or simply managing and organising spaces and people. We have many years' experience of this and as a result, we have skills to offer community developments - from regeneration projects to community gardens and allotments, and historical regeneration.
As a rural practice, we're tasked with all kinds of commissions at Bell Architects and have worked with a wide range of commercial clients over the years. From designing and building industrial sheds and agricultural structures, to developing retail outlets and office spaces, we do all this and more.
Historic structures have their own stories to tell, and preserving these buildings is a key part of what we do at Bell Architects. We're passionate about learning from the past and using this information to inspire our own modern architecture. We've worked on many significant stately homes and estates over the years, restoring and breathing new life into tired spaces.
