Our indoor space will remain closed and we will be operating an outdoor al fresco service only. Thank you for the continued support and we look forward to welcoming you back. Please note; the rule of two households or 6 people applies, table service only applies during this time too so we are not able to serve you at the bar - plus we will also have outside tables that will be free for walk ins.
The White Lion at Childer Thornton offers everything a country pub should; comforting home-cooked food, quality ales, characterful surroundings and a warm welcome. Described as a hidden gem in rural Cheshire, The White Lion is a friendly village inn with large open fires, wooden beamed ceilings and cosy snugs.

Good food and reasonably priced. I had T bone steak and the wife had salmon. I like my steak medium to well done ( so not dry but cooked all the way through ) this was done to perfection and yes as you can see by the pics, I like ketchup on my chips. Wife had salmon which again was perfect. Can get a bit busy, so definitely book ahead. Plenty of parking So no worries there. Only downer on the night was one member of staff who was a tad miserable. Not sure what was wrong but hope she recovers because other than that, it was an excellent dining out experience. Will definitely be going again.

Great for a pint but not for food. Sunday chicken roast dinner was a chicken breast with gravy on it. Not from a whole cooked chicken. Veg was a few carrots and the rest was frozen aunt Bessie's and a rubber Yorkshire.
Staff.. very much a lucky dip from excellent to bordering on rude, no actually rude. We had a table booked for 4pm. We were being rushed to order 10 minutes before our table was booked. Whole meal wasn't a pleasant experience at all.
Drink yes, food no.

Visited for an evening meal, food was good but service from a particular waitress left a lot to be desired. Who I assume to be the landlady was very pleasant when we arrived but the waitress who served us had very little in the way of customer service. After reading previous bad reviews I assume others have had the misfortune to have been served by her - very abrupt and snappy, was made to feel like an inconvenience, seemed like we were being bad mouthed to other customers within earshot and I can see why others who I assume have been served by her did not feedback their dissatisfaction at the
