One of Chester's most established independent restaurants serving fantastic French cuisine with a daily changing menu using only the finest, freshest ingredients. In 1997, Jason Ellison opened the doors of Chez Jules and introduced the authentic taste of French cuisine to the city of Chester.
Whilst travelling throughout France, Jason developed his love for the French bistro culture and the model of a hand written daily changing menu which became a first in Chester.Continuing nearly 25 years later, the ethos and passion remains the same, with the emphasis as always on amazing food with exceptional wines, great value and a warmth of hospitality that comes from the heart of all of our staff.

We were here for their £17.50 Tuesday evening special which includes a starter, main and a bottle of wine. It's a great ploy to get people in on a Tuesday but it's really opening yourself to a massive piss up mid-week given that it's one bottle per person!
Food was good. The best thing we had was the pork belly starter which was supposed to come with boudin blank but came with black pudding instead. Both were rich and the rhubarb was a great contrast.
The lamb main was fine but wasn't flavoursome enough. The veggie sides were great through. Green beans, carrots, gratin dauphinois

Lovely authentic French restaurant with a wonderful vibe.
I came her by chance and I must say I was lucky to get a seat because on the weekend it was pretty full.
Loved the food : Yes, I did!
Attentive staff: Cute, french waitress and great suggestions of their meal of the day!
Interior: French!
Will be back again!

I originally found this place on a list of cheap eats in Chester--and it's certainly an excellent value.
Weekdays, there's a set menu for 8-something, I went on a weekend when it was 9.50 for two courses. There are plenty of options, all very French bistro with an English twist. I would have had the potato salad with black pudding if I didn't have gluten to worry about, but as it was, I had a starter of a pea shoot salad with goat cheese, beetroot, and shaved fennel in a mild mustard vinaigrette. My main course was a fillet of cod in a buttery sauce with a side, elegantly served

Chez Jules has been my favourite restaurant in Chester for over 10 years. In that time they have opened the upstairs dining area so there are plenty of tables but it's always busy. Food is great but it's the atmosphere that really makes it. Very European. Prices are quite good for Chester too. The quality is always great so well worth paying for.

Went here recently for a Saturday night meal and had a great time. It was extremely popular despite awful weather, so they must be doing something right! We sat downstairs, which was quite lively as the restaurant was full.
The food was excellent, especially the desserts - would highly recommend the lemon sponge and the banoffee pie. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, reasonable prices, interesting building - all good!

I think the food here is amazing! True, the menu has not changed much there have a fantastic deal set price food and wine. The atmosphere as many have mentioned is great and staff are friendly and happy to serve. The place is rather small and so I would suggest booking esp for the wine deal or at a weekend as it does get busy. Prices are very reasonable esp for the quality of the food.

I really like this place. The service is always good, the prices are reasonable, the choice is good and no matter how busy they are they always seem to have time for you. The quality of the food is excellent and is international. Being in the centre of Chester itis easy to get to - but you would have to park in a car park as parking in Chester is a bit of a problem.
They offer a good range of drinks - wine and beer. They can accomodate good sized parties. I would definitely recommend this place.

Chez Jules has been around for as long as I can remember, and is a stalwart of the Chester eating out scene. This is perhaps both its strength and its weakness.
The atmosphere is great and tends to be very lively - it gets quite busy most nights especially with their 'meal and wine' deals.
The downside is that it could probably do with updating a little. The menu doesn't tend to change much from what I can tell, and the food is decent but not amazing. Chester's restaurant scene is growing fairly quickly so nowhere can afford to rest on past glories!

I was very disappointed when I visited Chez Jules when I was staying in Chester recently. Four of us went for the Tuesday night £15 for 2 courses plus a bottle of wine deal. I had mussels for a starter which were acceptable but the main course of a mutton stew was so sickly sweet I was unable to eat it. Another member of the party had sea bass which looked very unappetizing and they confirmed this when we spoke later.
Sorry Chez Jules that I cannot give you a better review at this stage, but I will try you again if I am in Chester for your Tuesday night special, as you have had consistently

In the past, my company has us stay in Chester (home of Anthony H.) when we're in the area on business. Chester is a charming and fun city, with the old Roman walls that you can walk on top and around the city and the river side.
There's also the Chester Races (The Roodee) that depending on the season, brings a lot of nicely-dressed and sometimes hard drinking folks to town. Anthony advises that the May Gold Cup is a good time to attend.
Chez Jules is a nice French restaurant on Northgate Street and is worth your strong consideration.

This French restaurant on Northgate Street has been hugely popular with diners in Chester for several years now. it holds special gastro evenings where diners can sample a range of new dishes for a set price. It is in two levels and often seats larger parties on long tables with benches which can be fun and personal when you know everybody but not so great for a stuffy office party when you're clambering over each other to get to the toilet! Wine is, of course, good and food is well known locally although I feel the portions could be a bit more filling for my male friends. Staff do there best

Love this restaurant. Its great for those who want to try out french food. It has a lovely atmosphere insde and the food is delicious and reasonably priced.
The menu changes all the time. But always with your meal you get veg and these lovely dauphinoise potatos. Yum. And their housewine is lovely and comes in those little glasses that you used to get in school.

Every trip to Chester should invole a long, leisurely lunch in provencial Chez Jule!
Every visit promises a new, mouth-watering menu, with a variety of exciting meat dishes but a couple of more-than-satisfactory vegetarian options to boot.
The set-menu is very reasonably priced and offers a range of delicious starters, gorgeous desserts and generous mains which are accompanied by steaming platters of colourful veg.
Besides the food there is great service and a lovely, relaxed but bustling atmostphere, and with the walls plastered with vintage posters of the French riviera, one could almost be

Chez Jules is the place to be on a Tuesday night. The set menu with wine for a fixed price, is just divine. The food is gorgeous and very tasty and the atomosphere is brilliant. It is like being with one big happy family. Expect the odd burst of singing, or imprompt toasting. It is a brilliant place to go to, even on another day. You will always have a fab meal and a very relaxing time.
