The Old Stables provides a rather special cottage experience. Turn up the lane from the courtyard gates and, after a walk through the glorious countryside, have lunch or a drink in the Bush Inn in the historic village of St Hilary. Turn down the lane and be in the centre of Cowbridge in 5 minutes and discover why it is called the 'Bond Street of Wales'.
Walk to a different restaurant every night of your stay in Cowbridge and try out the numerous fine pubs and discover even more eating places. Although Cowbridge can entertain you throughout your stay, you may wish to explore some of the unique features of this area. A short drive takes you to the beautiful beach at Southerndown on the Heritage Coast.

Photographs cannot do justice to this spectacular room with its limewashed walls, high ridged ceiling and its mellow original timberwork. The two huge, west facing rooflights flood the room with natural light making it a real risk that you may spend your holiday in here reading from our wide selection of books.
This charming room with its timber ridged ceiling and handmade door overlooks the courtyard below. The double bed is flanked on either side by fitted wardrobes creating an intimate space enhanced by the stainless steel bedside lamps with their individual integral dimmers. The bedside pockets in the side of the wardrobe provide an elegant and original design solution to the somewhat dated concept of bedside tables.
This compact room is inviting and loved by visitors. It has surprises at every turn, whether it is the split level above the bathroom with its skylight, or the purpose made chest below the bed or even the ad-hoc dressing table by the window. The room is wonderfully light with two rooflights (with black-out blinds) and a double window.
Very cute accommodation just outside of Cardiff. Sarah and her husband have evidently restored the stable with a huge amount of care and attention. The kitchen has all the necessary amenities and the living space is good to relax in. They were great with communication and taking us through everything on arrival.
The Old Stables were completely restored by the Tomlinson family over a period of 7 years. Having had experience of restoring a number of the Vale of Glamorgan's most important medieval buildings, we were able to restore the stables the highest standard. Wherever possible, materials were re-used.
The slate slabs from the old dairy became worktops whilst the massive limestone slabs forming the kitchen floor were re-laid in their original positions. The roof timbering was beyond repair but the main truss was saved as a non load carrying feature. Most of the original welsh roof slates were re-used.
