Services
Emperors Gym is part of the Middletons Hotel, and the longest-running health club in York. Established in 1991 we're proud of our history and great character, keeping many of the buildings original features in the gym, but bringing a fresh and modern quality to our spaces. It was built in the early 19th century as part of the industrial revolution.
We've updated our changing rooms - they're modern and fresh with all the accessories you need including hairdryers and seats, mirrors, showers and lockers. We have a clean and modern layout to make it even easier for you to start and end your gym session the right way.

A variety of spaces are available from our cardio room with cardiovascular machines and resistance machines, to the weights & free weights room including a range of dumbbells ranging from 1kg to 55kg and plates starting at 1.25kg to 25kg.We also have an indoor cycling studio with 14 bikes and the option of 'virtual spin'.
There are lots of good reasons why we think you should take advantage of one of our membership packages. If you are unable to commit to a long-term membership, then don't worry, we also have short term memberships available. Discounts for corporate memberships for staff of the NHS, City of York Council, Aviva, Nestl, and many more.

A disappointing gym overall. Location is the only thing that kept me going for as long as I did. Small gym, with limited equipment (3 pec decs is just overkill and could do with another squat rack), members are unfriendly and that also goes for staff. Special mention to the tattooed and bearded member of staff, who is honestly one of the rudest individuals I've ever come across, especially in a customer facing role, where it was too much effort for talk to a paying customer needing a locker key, whilst he was finishing off a text message. £37 a month for a gym where you are having to wait for

Great student membership deal, my favourite yoga classes and very nice staff. Beautiful old building. My two main issues are lack of aircond and questionable hygiene of the floors and mats...

Fine variety of equipment to hit all parts of the body. Staff seemed nice as well and the gym was overall fine if you need a quick workout. I will however say that a lot the hand weights were very worn to the point of me being unsure about using to hand weights at once.
Since I'm only in York for vacation I don't want to buy a full membership, but willing to pay for a day/week pass, however they only offer monthly subscriptions which I think is a shame.
Overall a fine little fitness with a good variety of equipment.

Great staff, great classes, fun atmosphere. Lots of options if you want to workout on your own or if you want to try a class. The classes aren't too long and the teachers are excellent.
