The husband and wife team of S. Douglas and L. Tobin began their careers as Optometrists i.e. Opthalmic Opticians in 1934 and they opened this practice as L. Tobin in Archway Central Hall, soon after the completion of the building in 1936. A second practice was opened in Archway Roda in 1946, named S. Douglas.

The Optician was lovely and did a fantastic job... BUT the customer service we received on entry to the opticians was sub-standard. I was answering the covid health questions for me and my daughter when she barked at my daughter for not answering for herself DISGUSTING. Then I was lied to. I was told the glasses would be ready for collection in a week (LIE). I HAD NO PHONE CALL WHAT SO EVER.SHE SAID SHE HAD LEFT A VOICEMAIL (LIE) I tried to ring the opticians at least 20 times NOBODY ANSWERED AND THERE WAS NO VOICEMAIL OPTION. Just a user busy message every time I tried to ring and the call hung

This warm, family business provided a fantastic service. The eye test and frame selection were first rate, plus they went the extra mile in expediting my order due to my travel circumstances PLUS provided later adjustments that I needed. They also coat the product in a long-lasting anti-Covid agent, which is a service you won't get at the high-street chain stores! Highly recommended!

Shocked and appalled by the way I was treated today by the current manager (previous owners daughter).
I initially called in january to book a routine eye test and was given an appointment for February.
I was called at very short notice informing me that this appointment couldn't go ahead as the optician was sick of which I understood and never complained although yes it was inconvenient due to life's commitments,I just accepted and that was fine on my part as these things happen.
The lady whom rang me to inform was not the current manager but another older lady which whilst on the phone to

I can't judge the quality of what they offer but I went to ask some information and I almost had the feeling they didn't want my business. UPDATE. I need to review this as I am not allowed to reply further. First of all I don't believe the prescription needs to be signed to be legal, otherwise all the online stores would be operating illegally. Having said that my main issue was not to be asked for a signed prescription but the attitude of what I believe was (based on the reply) the owner of the store.
