The Kents
An independent local pub with the magic mix of good ale, speciality gins and delicious food. We are taking bookings for our restaurants and will have the outdoor patio for walk-ins. Tables outside might not be completely covered from the elements so please make sure you wear suitable clothing. We are currently limiting the amount of customers on our premises to ensure our staff and customers are kept safe.

Please respect each other and our staff. Nestled at the base of the leafy Wellswood area in Torquay, The Kents is a family-friendly local pub with some of the best pub food in Torquay. Less than one mile from Torquay's harbour-side and the closest pub to Kents Cavern, this popular local pub offers a range of lunchtime and evening meals, Sunday roasts, real ales, wines by the glass and a full range of lagers.
Services
Here at the Kents we offer high quality food using local produce. Our team of chefs are all about preparing our food freshly, and sourcing our produce from a variety of farmers and growers in the South West region. Dining is relaxed in all areas of the pub, from the bar area to the restaurant and our sunny beer garden.
Thinking of eating out in Torquay? We have a huge range of food choices available including our homemade burgers, local sea-food, steaks and salads. All of our ingredients are sourced locally where possible. The fruit and vegetables used in our restaurant mainly come from within 20 miles of Torquay and our beefsteaks are from grass-pastured West-Country cows.
Choose from two or three locally sourced meats, served with roast potatoes, stuffing, homemade Yorkshire pudding, a selection of seasonal vegetables and homemade jus. We also offer a daily special vegetarian Sunday roast. Served Sundays 12-3pm, book early to avoid disappointment. Relax in our comfortable restaurant dining area and enjoy the wide range of gastronomic delights from our main menu and daily specials.
Situated in the popular seaside town of Torquay, The Kents is within easy reach of Torquay town centre and harbourside and is close to nearby attractions, of Kents Cavern and Torquay Museum, as well as the English Riviera UNESCO Geopark. The Kents is serviced by local bus routes: Stagecoach No.22 or No.122 (St Matthias Church stop).

The service was wonderful, the food was not quite up to it's normally standard and there was too much food not available.

Overall this pub was quite good the only reason I have given it 3 stars is beacuse the order. At first we ordered of the app but after waiting about 20 mins they said it didn't go through which is fine because its not their fault and then the second time we ordered we didn't get the right things we asked for but we were not fussed and then the third time we ordered they were missing one of my family members order but we got the item straight after . The staff are very welcoming and even though the order got messed up the food was very good and I recommend getting curly fries with cheese and the

Dreadful food and expensive and half the menu was not available, even though it was quiet. Food took ages to be served. Waitress was lovely but food was embarrassingly poor. Makes us as locals never want to eat there again. Such as a shame as it is in a prime position in Wellswood.

Stopped in for lunch after visiting the caves. We had a mix of burgers and tapa’s between our group - all were really nice, fresh, well cooked and tasty. Can’t recommend the meatballs enough - some of the best I’ve ever had outside of homemade so you might want to order more than 1 portion !

Sadly, not what it used to be. Although ringing ahead to be seated in the restaurant we were told no tables available on arrival just 30mins later so we had to sit in the bar. No problem with that but it would have been nice to know. Unfortunately the menu was nowhere near as good as a few years back although perhaps there's a difference between restaurant and bar food. My burger was a little dry overall and the blue cheese topping was little more than a scraping on one of the buns. Someone needs to understand what a topping means. Sadly, pretty underwhelming hence just 3 stars. As my school reports

Great pub about a mile from Torquay town centre. Smallish but tasty menu and a good choice of draft beers and lagers. Outside and inside dining.

Popped in after a visit to Kents Cavern. Friendly staff were very welcoming. The pub is light & modern with good music. We were lucky to visit on a Thursday where there was a special on Tapas & Cocktails. My partner ordered the vegan mushrooms & gyozas with a strawberry Collins & Woo Woo Cocktails. I ordered the New York deli steak burger & my daughter the ribs (is a chefs special which should be part of the menu). The ribs came out as a mountain, they were plentiful. All food was cooked to perfection. The New York burger is similar in taste to a Salt Beef sandwich. The mushrooms with the vegan

We turned up without a table booked and managed to get a table outside and we were given an umbrella because it was drizzling. Ordering through the app was really easy and our drinks came quickly. The menu was amazing. We wanted to order everything. When our tapas arrived it looked beautiful and tasted great. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.
