The Lodge is a new self-catering holiday cottage and sits in the grounds of an old 16th Century house. It's fresh, eco-friendly and very energy efficient. The original part of the house was built in the 1600's and it's most famous occupant was W Heath-Robinson, the well-known cartoonist and illustrator of eccentric machines, who lived here from 1913 to 1920.

The Old Forge House offers a haven of peace and tranquility in a rural setting while still being only 5 minutes from the waterside activities and restaurants. Perfect for a relaxing break in the North Essex countryside! We both had a lovely time last week during our stay. The Lodge could not have been more perfect and the island was lovely too.

The Lodge is a new self-catering holiday cottage and sits in the grounds of an old 16th Century house. It's fresh, eco-friendly and very energy efficient. Pets are welcome as long as they do not go on the furniture or beds and there is an additional charge of 10 for furry friends. I recently had the good fortune to have a lovely stay at The Lodge on Mersea Island and really did find an absolute gem of a place to stay.
The island location offers excellent sailing and watersports, including wind surfing and also has superb kite surfing beaches. The waterfront / anchorage offers a variety of restaurants and places to eat. Mersea is famous for its Native Oysters, which have been praised by both Jamie Oliver and Rick Stein, and these can be sampled in 'The Company Shed' and 'The West Mersea Oyster Bar'.
What a wonderful house for a holiday stay. Right on the beachfront, warm, fresh and accommodating. Walking distance to good restaurants and pub. Lovely light and good sized bedrooms with really comfortable beds and fresh smelling linen. Newly fitted out kitchen, smart, roomy bathrooms - all very clean and stylish.
