Founded in 1905 as The British Undertakers' Association, The National Association of Funeral Directors, as it has been known since 1935, is one of a number of organizations that has appeared over the last three hundred years to represent those responsible for managing the disposal of the dead - eventually resulting in the formation of the British Undertakers' Association in 1905.
As the largest and most inclusive representative body for the UK funeral profession, the National Association of Funeral Directors supports its members in delivering high standards of care for those who have died and provides bereaved people with information and assurance to help them choose a compassionate, professional and experienced funeral director that they can trust.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has powers to intervene in any market sector where it believes there may be a detriment to consumers, due to the way the business in that sector operate. Following a two and a half year investigation into the funeral sector, the CMA has published a set of requirements, in the form of a legally binding Order under the Enterprise Act 2002, that ALL UK funeral businesses must abide by.
Entrusting a loved one to the care of a funeral director, when you are grieving, is an important decision and the National Association of Funeral Directors is there to help ensure the funeral director you choose will give you the very best care and support. A really good funeral director does more than simply help you organise the funeral.
Planning your funeral now may be the last thing that you want to be thinking about but planning in advance can help to ease the emotional and financial strain on friends, family and loved ones at a very difficult time.

Not wanting to talk about the death of a loved one or your own funeral is understandable, but not doing so can cause considerable distress for loved ones when the time comes, whether that's uncertainty as to what the person who has died would have wanted, family friction over what kind of funeral it will be or concerns over how much to spend.
