We're a bit of a rare breed amongst Cotswold hotels. Our thinking is, if you've got it, flaunt it. Nestled very nicely in the 'Queen of the Cotswolds' village of Painswick, our picture-perfect Palladian house is your new home-from-home. Boasting roaring fires, sink-into-me sofas and seventeen bedrooms where peaceful slumber beckons, we're the perfect place for a snug escape in the countryside.
Our food is made to be experienced. It's designed to tempt your inner foodie and is perfect for sharing between you and your pals. Take a pew in The Hearth, where Smorgasbord-style is an everyday experience, pick a spot to hang out in The Painswick Restaurant, or kick off those wellies and treat yourself to the delicious decadence of a Painswick afternoon tea.

Originally built in the late 18th century at the height of the wool trade, our humble abode was first known as Prospect House. Renamed Gwynfa House in the 1950's, a new purpose was found for the property, serving as a bed-and-breakfast for weary travellers, before evolving once more in the 1960's to become the Cranham Woods Hotel.

Stayed at the Painswick 2 weeks ago and are at another hotel this weekend and genuinely do miss the Painswick. Every single staff member we encountered throughout our stay was fantastic, I have never experienced more attentive and friendly service anywhere else and could clearly see the hard work put on during a busy service by everyone. Can not fault, fantastic room, place and staff
Look forward to coming back

We only had dinner here but were very impressed, and we've been to a good number of high end establishments. Friendly & attentive service, beautifully presented and delicious food, and a couple of wonderful cocktails to boot. Only downside for us was we didn't find it sooner so we could've experienced it more than once. If you're in the area, you must visit!

Excellent hotel at a reasonable price. I find it very hard to fault and that’s the reason we return. It’s a Goldilocks hotel. Not too big, not too small, not too stuffy, not too laid back. It’s just right. Wonderful location, great staff and lots to do including beautiful walks. Finally, it has an awesome cocktail bar! An ideal weekend away.
