At the turn of the last Century the shop was owned by the Blagrove family when it was a jewellers and a photographers. In 1966 his son, Mr Robert Barrett FGA joined the family business after training in Southampton, London, Eastbourne and Exeter. The shop is now largely run by Mr Andrew Glaysher FGA who joined Marston Barrett as a trainee in 1984 and has happily remained with us ever since.
We take pride in the fact that Marston Barrett are a family business. We have over 80 years of trading as a fiercely individual and independent jewellers. We feel we are a refreshing change from the high street multiples, or jewellers who take the easy route of selling the same unexceptional stock dictated to them by powerful buying groups or large watch companies in re-fitted showrooms that all look the same.

When it comes to shopping for a diamond ring, as an important and unique investment, for somebody starting out looking for their purchase you will see that prices differ dramatically, even with rings that appear to have the same stone size. Cut - The only manmade aspect of the 4 C's is the Diamond's cut which indicates how the Diamond is shaped in its size.
There are various different purities of gold in the UK such as 9ct, 14ct, 18ct and 22ct. All of these purities have a percentage of other alloys added into them to make them up to 100%. These include copper, palladium and silver. When these alloys are added they affect the colour of the gold. For example, if you add copper, this will make the gold a rose colour, and if you add palladium this will make the gold white in appearance.
Silver has a British hallmark stamp of 925 which means it is 92.5 parts out of one thousand pure. The other alloy of 7.5% copper. Even though it is quite a soft metal, it is durable enough for jewellery and ornaments and antique pieces, and has been around for many years.
Ideally if you wear your silver jewellery quite often this usually makes its shine, as opposed to storing it away in a jewellery box, where it will tarnish and discolour, so enjoy wearing your silver items as much as you can!If you need to clean your silver use either a silver polish with a soft cloth, or alternatively use warm water and washing up liquid, making sure it is rinsed through thoroughly.

What a great experience. I can’t speak highly enough of the customer service I received. I felt compelled to write a review because I was quite pleasantly taken aback - I came in to get an idea of the individual values of a number of pieces of jewellery and they painstakingly helped me without asking for anything in return - a real rarity these days and I’m just so incredibly grateful.

Lovely quaint shop in the heart of Lewes. I love looking in their display windows which are always packed with beautiful items. They have a classic old world charm that you don't get elsewhere. I'd definitely recommend them if you want to buy something special as I found them friendly, knowledgable and love the fact that many of the pieces are unique and one off rather than mass produced.

Just had to say what a wonderful Early Christmas shopping experience I have had at this fine jewellers. I found presents for all the family from 5⭐️ to little gestures. The range and quality of their goods are equal to any of the big names in London and dare I say, much better price-wise.
What I really love is their kindness to shoppers like me. I know what I like but appreciate the help on quality and advice for sometimes a large investment . How wonderful in this day and age to shop with confidence and pleasure in this green fronted shop in Lewes' High Street. An exquisite Aladin's cave

I Would not recommend this jewellers, I have visited several times as have several friends and we have all agreed that it is very out dated the staff are rude and doddery - it's like something out of are you being served!! - the stock that the store carries is very dated and I would certainly not recommend going here for engagement rings etc. - perfect if you are looking for a brooch for your grand mother but if you are after anything remotely current - strongly avoid!!

This place is a JOKE I paid over the odds for a bracelet in 2009 then in 2015 i needed to sell it and have been laughed out of 2 jewellers in Eastbourne and then a further 3 jewellers in Worthing all said the same thing I paid over the odds originally and now I left with an 18carat white gold and Diamond bracelet that is worth between £150 and £200 scrap!!!! I understand you dont get back what you paid even with gold prices rising in these past years what I didnt expect was to be taken the mick out of in the first place and sold something that really wasnt worth what I believed in good faith

I must be a huge phillistine, because as I was taking notes of this Marston Barrett, one of my main points, was that it is an "upmarket H. Samuels"
Well to back myself up. It is to an extent. I mean they sell watches, and jewellery, and lots of them. There you go, just like H. Samuel...O.K. I am a phillistine.
But more than that, this shop is a really great place to get some actually nice, fancy jewellery for your loved one's and I would say the style is more mother/grandmother than contemporary/girlfriend kinda thing. As well as the delicate necklaces and broaches, they also have

This is a really pretty jewellers. I love the muddy green painted front and lovely stained glass trim on the windows. They sell a mix of contemporary, vintage and antique jewellery in all its enchanting forms- rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets. I particularly like their art deco jewellery- they always have stunning brooches, earrings, pendants and bracelets all in the classic deco shapes in diamond, sapphire, ruby and emerald. Very lovely to press my nose up to! I have been in to ask about their pearl necklaces (my mum was hankering after one for Christmas) and they were very friendly. Considering
