A fixed rate mortgage guarantees you a specific rate for a period at the beginning of your mortgage; usually 2,3,5 or 10 years. During this time, your rate will not change. A variable rate moves in line with the lenders standard variable rate which usually reflects any changes in the Bank of England base rates.
Most people do not have a large amount of savings or have access to financial support to pay their housing costs in the event of serious illness or earlier death of a partner. It is therefore extremely important to consider protection as an option to run alongside your mortgage.

Neil Moakes is brilliant at what he does and he has helped us get great mortgage deals on a number of occasions to enable us to gain full ownership of our house that was shared ownership when we moved in. He has fantastic knowledge that he is keen to share and always takes the time to clearly explain every aspect at every step of the way. We are extremely grateful for his help over the years and will continue to use his and De Havilland's services long into the future. Thank you!

Met with Sarah Jane Martin at the London Home Show initially seeking general advice about the Help to Buy equity loan. Was immediately told that it wasn't an option for me as it "only makes sense if you earn loads of money". No explanation as to how much "loads of money" actually was in ££ and also quite interesting as she hadn't even bothered to ask me what I was earning at that point, so clearly made an assumption about me based on my appearance??
In addition to that very awkward and abrupt introduction, she then went on to be very unfriendly and unhelpful and even went as far as to say I

As a Sales Consultant aiding purchasers in buying their first home, I have relied upon the expertise of Neil Moakes for many years, and recommended him countless times. Neil has a knack for finding the best deals, and the thoughtfulness to explain the mortgage process in straightforward terms. His advice having always been sound, and his cheery disposition always welcome, when I came to purchase my own home I naturally turned to Neil. As someone who has worked with many financial advisors, I can offer no better endorsement!

I would like to thank Neil Moakes for his professional, personal, and expert service. Neil was instrumental in securing our very first mortgage and subsequently getting us our remortgage two years later. I cannot recommend him enough; he’s got your back at all times. When our remortgage lender pulled out at the 11th hour, Neil already had a backup off ready to go. That’s the kind of person you need in your corner. Neil is a star.

Rude and unprofessional response from the Director when I was simply asking some basic questions. After making an enquiry about how much I could borrow and her getting my name wrong the first time, I got no 'hello' or 'good afternoon' in subsequent messages, and no sign off, e.g. 'kind regards'. The emails were blunt and bordering on rude. Here's the exact response copy and pasted:
'We are mortgage brokers.
If you want an idea complete the link.'
Shocking customer service and rude tone. This is a potential client you're dealing with, do better.

Critical: Professionalism, Quality
Just been in contact and I'm disgusted at the response. Their professionalism comes across rude when all I'm after is advice. I can't speak for their service after initial contact as I never got that far but wouldn't want too at all. And the person I spoke to was the director apparently (according to her email signature anyway)

My experience is from 2016, so a few years ago and what a poor experience I had. I was pregnant, received an email after asking what our next steps were and not getting a response, to if we didn't reply to them they'd not go any further. Asking us what we would like them to do. (We are not experts and didn't know so went with someone else who got us a mortgage straight away). The email that they sent I was in labour at the time and spent the following week in hospital and that was the time limit. (So didn't get the email until after). I was fuming, as they wanted us to walk away to take our money

Tried to call them for initial inquiry and they don't know how to handle my call, i was asked to call back and when I called back I was passed to two other people who has not even handled my query but started to ask me questions that I am not actually willing to answer. I have to drop the call as I have the impression that they are not professional in handling customer service. Not looking forward to signing with this kind of service with a mortgage broker especially for a first time buyer like me.
