Andy Dawson Photography is a commercial photography service, based in Inverness - and I have been supplying advertising and marketing photography for more than 30 years. At the beginning, we all used film and hand-held light meters, with manual focus cameras! I can still work in film, including large format photography and transparency film - which offers better quality than digital.
Most of my work is in digital photography these days of course, but I specialise in Black & White images - in film and in digital formats. I work predominantly on location and am just as happy working out of doors as inside. I have extensive experience photographing products - including Artists work, cars, food, architecture and people at work - as well as covering many events for PR and marketing purposes.

I have been an active photographer since I was a small boy and my Father gave me a box Brownie camera (yes, really! - the one this picture of me was taken on, actually!). We worked in Black and White and did our own developing at home. I began my professional experience as a commercial photographer in the 1980's.
I like the challenge product photography presents. Sometimes, you need an accurate representation of the product - but often the marketing material demands an interpretive picture, bringing out the best in the creative team. Product photography can be straightforward and technical - but the type of lighting, choice of background or the addition of the right kind of props can lift a picture into a more effective sales tool.
I have considerable experience in photographing both interiors and exteriors of commercial, public and residential buildings in the UK and in Germany. Architectural photography covers many aspects of buildings and there are often technical considerations that demand the use of large format cameras with the ability to correct verticals, or to work at height and at night.
I am often asked to photograph people while they are working. The challenge of taking interesting individual pictures of everybody on a production line, for example - and making them all look different enough, as well as the same, is great fun. There is nothing better for telling the story of how a company is a happy ship and cares about their workforce and what they produce, than pictures of the staff doing their work.
Excellent photography is only part of the story in getting your message to your customers. You could be making a brochure or leaflet, or maybe an advert or a poster for your business. As well as providing the photography, I can create the artwork and arrange for these items to be printed and delivered to your door.
