Based in Southampton we have one of the oldest privately owned family restaurants in the area. After working as an ice cream salesman in Southampton, a baker in London and a 'chippie' in Wales (where he learnt Welsh!) He had finally saved enough money to launch a restaurant - dubbed George's after his second Christian name, that was in 1940.

This is by far the best Greek restaurant I have visited. The staff are a delight. Genuinely friendly and helpful. The food is perfect and the price is good! My friend and I both had the T-bone steak and it was so tasty. His wife and mine had liver and bacon from their special board! They love it so much that they only order that everytime we go!

We booked on a Saturday night and they had a huge party going on, people were walking around, and everyone was shouting really loudly. The staff made no effort to quiet them down or even apologize.
I have partial hearing loss so couldn't converse with my friends and family because I wasn't able to hear a word they said.
I have been a regular there for over 30 years and always tip well.
They never would have treated regular customers so poorly in the past (parties were always catered elsewhere I believe), we'll eat elsewhere in future.

The best Original Greek restaurant. Had a table for 18 tonight. Food was as ever outstanding, fresh and hot, and all got served together. Had the filo pastry king prawns to start, and scampi for main the chips are homemade 😋. The staff were attentive and helpful, and service was brilliant. Thanks to Harriet for replying to my emails so quickly, and for allowing us to bring our own cake. Would highly reccomend. We will be back thanks so much. 10 out of 10

I reviewed George's a couple of years back and it was pretty good but I'm afraid last nights visit will be my last. Food quality and presentation have gone downhill. The starter portions are plentiful and probably the most enjoyable part of the meal. The so called village salad is a dollop of sauerkraut on the side of the plate. Definitely no attention to dressing the plate as they used to. I ordered chicken breast with a pepper sauce..I didn't expect a flattened out grilled piece of chicken for 15 pounds and the chicken maryland come with four tiny mushrooms..no peas, grilled tomato like it used

Great meal at George's on Friday the 21st of May with some good friends.
The Calamari Salad I had was wonderful as the food always is. Some amazing customer service from extremely friendly staff. Have been to Georges many times over more than 20 years and it is always a great experience.
Will be booking for my wife and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks, can't wait.
