Deal Castle is one of the finest Tudor artillery works in England. It was built as part of a chain of coastal fortresses at great speed between 1539 and 1540, by order of King Henry VIII, who feared an invasion by the Catholic powers of Europe. Its squat, rounded turrets were designed to deflect incoming cannon fire and act as platforms from which to launch barrages from increasingly sophisticated artillery pieces.
Very English family establishment located in a delightful 19th century square of Edwardian Terraces, one in which the Dutch Painter Va Gough once lived. We were made very welcome by the Manager. Imagine waking up to see the sun rise across the English channel, we had a balcony sea view room with a terrace and a new en-suite.

Narrow street full of parked cars. It was Bank Holiday weekend so no surprise it was busy but we did find a good parking space 5 minutes walk away. Breakfast was a mixed bag. Guy serving was nice young lad but needed more training. It was the first time anyone had fried an egg to my wife's liking, well done and flipped over. Unfortunately the rest of breakfast was poor. Slow service (get a catering frying pan so you can cook more than
