Services
Gus and Kate run Restaurant 5 North Street with pride. An integral part of Winchcombe's tight-knit community, they provide memorable dining in an uncluttered 26-cover dining room. Gus's dedication to gastronomy was evident from day one. A man with a redoubtable work ethic, he completed his training under Michel Roux Snr at the three-star Waterside Inn, at Bray-on-Thames.
Don't be fooled by Gus's low profile. He is a man with a huge talent and a great history. Described by resident Cotswold chef David Everitt-Matthias as 'an unsung hero', Gus cooks straight from his heart. He is not a slave to fashionable food and opts for classic dishes where flavour is king. He was inspired as a boy, taking great delight in his mother's exceptional home-cooked food.
After blazing a trail at a series of the UK's finest restaurants during an apprenticeship during the 1990s, he created Restaurant 5 North Street. It has remained a perennial favourite for discerning gourmands from across the UK. His menus provide visitors with a taste of The Cotswolds. Impeccable contacts with local, artisan producers ensure that the best ingredients make their way to his kitchen every single day.
Menus change frequently at Restaurant 5 North Street. Much depends on what is available and what is in season. Only the finest ingredients are selected and Gus creates menus that feature the finest combinations cooked in classical style. His modern British cuisine excites regulars and those from further afield, who are enthralled by precise and innovative cookery.
Gus decided to write his own book, Flavour, after working as a chef for more than 20 years. As he says on the pages of that title: I'm an old-school cook; I roast my own scallops in a pan with butter, rather than cooking them in a waterbath. We never do anything just to be fashionable or clever. For me, the most important thing is flavour - it's what I believe good food is all about.

Six of us ate here for my wife's birthday and we all had the taster menu. We were blown away with the quality of the food and the flavours. Having had many taster menus in top Michelin star restaurants, this food was right up there! Fantastic environment and service which we found excellent value too. Thank You so much. We will be back!

Best. Meal. Ever. Husband-and-wife team Marcus and Kate richly deserve their Michelin Star at 5 North Street. Every dish is beautifully presented and every mouthful is full of flavour.
Kate’s friendly front-of-house welcome and excellent service completed our very enjoyable evening. Doggy friendly too!

Really really great food. Nice selection of dishes and a sensible way to choose if you don't want a full 7 dish tasting menu. The scallops were beautiful, the ham hock excellent and the pig cheeks divine. Great combinations of flavours and dishes. The strawberry soup shot with the desert was literally the essence of strawberry.
Great wines too.
Fantastic little family run restaurant doing food you need to try.
