I had an average experience with this firm and with one of their solicitors a very poor experience (when he was with another firm and not this one) - l was young and it was my first experience of appointing a lawyer and l had no idea l was actually on an hourly rate and the final bill was £8000 for a conveyancing service that l now pay £1500-2000 for. The bill was reduced to £4000 when l complained but still l was much overcharged. I learnt an awful lot about dealing with lawyers. Never ever agree an hourly rate if you can avoid. My younger naive self - 15 yrs later l still remember.

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value
In 20 years I have used the house convancy services of this group of solicitors. They have quoted a good price & stuck to it. Been deligent & honest in their dealings. Always getting a prompt & personal service. Our house in Islington was sold by them and also our recent house purchase in Nottinghamshire.

These guys have the best conveyancing team in London. We have used them twice and both times we have been superbly looked after. It's so reassuring to have prompt replies (usually in minutes) when our experience with other firms can take DAYS. Looking forward to using them again as it's a relief to have such a fantastic contact for our Legal needs.

Time wasters. They quoted one price on the phone but then a price that was ten times that amount once you're in their office (on the basis of exactly the same requirement which was known when they made their original quote). Two staff members actually disagreed over what the price should be. Stay away.

If good admin is an essential qualification for a firm of solicitors, I'd steer clear of Gelbergs. Anyone can make mistakes, but it's how you deal with them. This lot are fully signed up to the 'it weren't me' approach. Make an appointment. Less than a day later, the person who makes it denies ever having set eyes on you. Or if they did, the appointment 'wasn't put in the calendar' etc etc. Bit of a problem if you're trusting them with essential bits of paper... Which I certainly won't be doing. One to avoid.

I used Gelbergs for my property purchase conveyancing, because I lived closed by and wanted the convenience. Pricewise - it as about average and approximately £1500 all in.
The property purchase was ultimately successful, part due to the professional efforts of Gelbergs. Also, our first purchase attempt on another property had fallen through as the vendors had pulled out after 2 weeks. But Gelbergs did not charge us money for work they had done in that transaction.
However, a lack of communication is the reason why 3 stars is given instead of 5. There was barely any advice given, and questions
