The Chequers Inn is a traditional 7 bedroomed Peak District country freehouse sitting below the famous Froggatt Edge in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside. With its origins dating back to the 16th century, The Chequers provides the highest standards of modern comfort whilst retaining its original charm.

The earliest reference to building on this site is 1591, when George Marples and his family resided here. It was one of George's children, Jacob, who we believe opened and alehouse here. The present Inn was built in 1735 by Thomas Marples, but it wasn't until the late 18th Century that the Inn became of some prominence.
Our menu changes throughout the year to reflect the seasons and our Pub Classics Menu consists of favourites such as 'Proper' steak and local ale pie. Being located in the Peak District we are fortunate to have some fantastic food & drink suppliers right on our doorstep which we actively use. During the day we also offer a comprehensive sandwich, salad & small plate menu, served inside and outside.
Our 7 bedrooms are cosy, comfortable and characteristically furnished, comprising of Twin, Double, Four Poster and Superior rooms. All rooms are en-suite and equipped with hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, free wi-fi and flat screen TV. Several of our rooms are large enough to accommodate an additional childrens bed or travel cot.
The Countryside Alliance, in conjunction with the British Association for Shooting and Conservation's 'Taste of Game' campaign is running The Great British Game Week. We are proud to support this initiative and to offer diners the unique opportunity to experience dishes they may not usually try. Our special menu has been created by our Head Chef Richard Spencer and his team and uses only the finest quality game sourced from within Derbyshire.
The Peak District National Park with its breath taking scenery offers fabulous walking, climbing and sightseeing with The Chequers being conveniently situated for exploring this wonderful area. The magnificent Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Eyam Hall are all within 10 minutes drive from The Chequers.

No longer a pub, but yet another pub-turned-restaurant, great if that's what you want.
Atmosphere painfully quiet and non-existent, food was interesting. All-in-black waitstaff hovering to please.
I wandered into the other side, expecting a bar, instead I found a silent empty room - perfectly laid conference type table, expectantly awaiting a party of 20.
I won't be coming back.
*thanks for the response, although I didn't intend it to be critical, just honest. I described what I experienced and I think that's fair and reasonable.

The service was good. We both had the Sunday roast. We thought the pork was dry and the beef had a cotton-wool texture. The flavour was passable. The gravy was bland . The plates were cold. The roast potatoes were under-cooked. For The Checkers , we were disappointed and had had far better. Comments from the kitchen staff overheard from outside were not in any way professional nor pleasant.

Loved the place, the service was really quick, staff friendly always checking on us to see if everything was well, and most of all the food was of top quality, perfectly prepared and presented. Definitely worth the price, would recommend to anyone! They also let us take the drinks outside into the garden after we were done with dinner so that was lovely.

What a fantastic place to stay (and eat at)! It's a really lovely historical building in the middle of the Peak district - you overlook the most breath-taking views. The staff are excellent, they really go above and beyond. The food both at breakfast and in the evenings is delicious and I found myself looking forward to it. Couldn't recommend more!

Enjoyed a delicious meal here. Service was really good, despite it being a rather busy Sunday lunchtime. Beef was cooked to absolute perfection, along with the selection of veg accompanying it. Thoroughly enjoyed my bakewell tart and the rest of my family loved their creme brulee. Portions were more than adequate too. I would advise booking a table if you're going for a Sunday lunch so you aren't disappointed.

Disappointing menu and the food was very bland. We were celebrating a special occasion and have been to Chequers several times in the past and have always had an excellent evening. We were sat at a table which was in the darkest place in the room (there were other tables available in the window which were reserved but no one sat there the whole time we were there) There was no specials board and a limited vegetarian choice. The waiters/waitresses were very attentive (can't fault them) but the food was nothing special. Can't believe the size of the trout for the price we paid. Feel we've been really
