The firm was founded in 1989 by - you guessed- Martin Smith. Martin and his wife Rachel bult up a successful practice from the 1980s until their retirement in 2011, when they sailed into the sunset in their campervan. Stephen Rehder joined the practice in 2000 and Carol Reimann joined in 2011. Tracey Ledgister was welcomed to the team in 2019.
We currently specialise in conveyancing and probate matters and since Martin's retirement no longer undertake litigation or family work. Our clients come from the local areas of Borehamwood, Barnet, Radlett and further afield across the UK, where our clients have moved and relocated but have remained clients of the firm, as have their children and grandchildren.

Services
Martin Smith & Co. is committed to providing a high-quality legal service to all our clients. When something goes wrong, we need you to tell us about it. This will help us to improve our standards. We will send you a letter acknowledging receipt of your complaint within five days of our receiving the complaint, enclosing a copy of this procedure.
Whether you are a first-time buyer, upsizing, downsizing or sideways sliding, we can take care of with the legal side of things. Buying a home is one of the most stressful purchases you will make in your life. At Martin Smith & Co, we have been providing residential conveyancing services for decades.
Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorneys are fast becoming the must-have accessory for everyone over the age of consent! Making a will allows you to manage your affairs in your lifetime and relieves your loved ones of the burden of trying to sort matters out after you have left them.
If a person loses the ability to understand what is going on around them, then to enable family or friends (or a professionally appointed attorney) to provide help with financial affairs and personal arrangements, a registered lasting power of attorney avoids the necessity of applying to the Court of Protection. If it is too late for lasting power, then we can of course help with that application to the Court of Protection.

Administering the estate of a close loved one when you are in mourning can be overwhelming. We can help you through the probate process at this difficult time. You may find that you have been appointed as an executor without knowing about it and you have been chosen by the person who has passed away as someone they thought of as more sensible than their headstrong family.
We are required to provide information on our costs and services in a readily accessible format, that is accurate and easy to understand. Unlike buying a packet of peas, one size does not fit all. If you were to contemplate having new windows, you would not expect to be given a final price until someone has been round and measured and carried out a survey.

I have just issued proceedings against Martin Smith & Co. They made terrible mistakes obtaining Probate with my Fathers Estate. I has to instruct a different firm of Solicitors to sort out the mess. HMRC agreed that the calculations by Martin Smith & Co were wrong and issued a refund in excess of £20,000

I called Martin Smith & Co today to find out if I could have a commercial lease signed and witnessed by their solicitor. After speaking for short while to a secretary and explaining what it was I was trying to do I was put through to a solicitor. She asked what it was I needed doing and said it will cost £5. I was in a noisy environment and asked if she could wait a moment for me to move away from the noise to which she briskly replied: No, not for the £5! ...and put the phone down leaving me feel rather uncomfartable.
Now I know £5 is not a lot of money but if you provide such service surely
