The Elephant At The Market

Wanted to meet friends for lunch in Newbury and The Elephant at the Market looked to meet our needs. Food was fresh and well cooked, the triple cooked chips were loved by those who had them.

The atmosphere was relaxed, the food was great. The furnishings were great and you felt like you were in the middle of nowhere rather than in the centre of Newbury town. Every member of staff who served us the food were great, helpful and friendly. I would recommend to anyone, solo, a couple or a group of friends. Will be returning in the future. Thank you.

Stayed at the hotel recently and I was disappointed, when booking online for a twin room you see this lovely bathroom with a large shower, we didn’t get this. In my view you simply can’t advertise something which the end consumer won’t get.
The room wasn’t cleaned greatly with cobwebs and such.
Another problem with the bathroom is the taps which are to far back meaning your touching the back of the basin while you try and wash your hands.
Overall my main disappointment is based in not getting what’s shown and advertised online as I probably would have picked a different establishment

Staff made our party really welcome they were friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had a really enjoyable time it got to be the best pre Xmas party I have ever attended on the 58 years or so being on this planet well done pass our many thanks to the staff and manager and wish them a very happy and safe Christmas 🎄 x james

Just had the most beautiful Christmas Dinner in the elephant! Lovely, friendly staff! The beef was beautiful! Thank you all for a lovely evening.

Service was slow, we waited more than 15 mins to be asked if we wanted a drink until i got up and went to the bar. Asked 3 times for water we didn't get. Food took forever. In all fairness the food was good.

Stayed at the Elephant yesterday for one night...Slept in the Flora room which has always been my choice to stay in the main building as I have stayed a few times before. Unfortunately bathroom did not feel cleaned, loo had definitely been recently used. Bits of toilet paper on the floor. Slept very well until 7pm when there was noise I assumed from neighbour shower but continued for quite some time. Went for breakfast was rather hungry....had prebooked cooked breakfast and it was literally two bacon, one sausage, one egg, tomatoe and mushroom and single slice of bread.....for a cooked breakfast

A lovely lunch and a great setting to catch up with friends. Located just a leisurely 10-minute stroll north from the main Newbury train station.
Great food and intelligent service.
When your only comment is that the wonderful ham hock and chicken pie needs a spoon for the great gravy, the venue has done its job! We shall return. Mon 13SEP2021

The filet steak I had was delicious (medium rare as recommended). Friendly staff.

Really nice place to eat - the best fish and chips I have ever had! Priya looked after us beautifully during my mum's 80th birthday lunch with the family. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be going again soon.

Been here three times to date and had two different dishes with deserts, pizza was great while not the best I've ever had it is certainly up there for best pizza in the area along with say Ask italian just opposite them. I also had their house burger which at the time was a venison burger (a long while ago I admit) but it tasted great and really was one of the best I'd ever had. Prices are good, atmosphere is great the only issue I had recently was a drink order never coming to our table, but that was solved quickly and me and my partner didn't mind as the server was polite and friendly.

We had a great meal this evening whilst staying nearby. Food great, wonderful friendly service from staff highly recommend.

Staying for two night for family and friends meet up. Rooms are adequate. Clean and tidy. Pub food is good and the staff are friendly.
