The Old Library is a historic building on the north side of King Street, Bristol. It was built in 1738-40 and has been designated by English Heritage as a grade II* listed building. Until 1906 it housed the main collections of Bristol's public library, which was one of the first in England when it was founded in 1613 on the same site.
From 1779 the building also contained one of the country's first public displays of fossils. Established in 1986, Cathay Rendezvous is the longest established Chinese Restaurant in Bristol. A Bristol institution which has been copied and imitated by others but there is only one Cathay Rendezvous. Within the elegant faade, the restaurant offers spacious and flexible air-conditioned rooms on two levels.

Nice pre-theatre meal. A little surprised given current guidelines to be sat in an empty room and then the next couple were seated within half a metre. No privacy to talk and felt uncomfortable given the number of other tables available. Prefer a little social distance when possible in current climes.

I had a limp on my left leg, after walking through the doors on my way out, after eating a large and fantastic serving of sweet and sour pork, which was excellently seasoned and brilliantly moist, along with some of the best egg fried rice I've eaten in my life time, the limp was entirely gone. I'm not sure if it was the doing of the meal or the holy ground upon it was cooked, however I'm not complaining. And ever since I ordered a take away from this wonderful establishment, I have since found my apartment smelling like freshly cooked meals of varying types every time I walk through my door.

Consistently amazing! We’ve eaten here many times and the lunch deal can’t be beaten. Fantastic selection of starters and mains and we love every single one.
The service is brilliant, you are made to feel very welcome.
They also use proper chopsticks, not the wooden ones you have to split- see pics.
Great selection of drinks as well. Plenty of seating but worth booking if you have a large party.

We have been here pretty much the same day / time for the past few years and I have always thought it has been average - I’ve had better takeaways. Our most recent visit on 15/12/19 though changed my view of it being a 3* to being a 2*. We ordered our food and the first dish that came out was the Honey Ribs - although we didn’t ask for them to be spilt off the plate all on to the table. Anyway after that mishap we thought the rest of the meal would go smoothly. However as our mains were being bought out one of the waiters reached over to put a plate down and knocked one of the many glasses
