The headteacher and deputy headteacher have an exceptional understanding of how young children learn and their interests. They ensure that staff take account of this when planning activities and projects. As a consequence, children of different abilities make rapid progress and show high levels of interest and concentration.
We are a local authority maintained Nursery school, offering places for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. The school has had a varied history, having been an Early Excellence Centre and a Children's Centre since its opening in 1999, although there has been a school on the site for many years and generations of families have been educated on the site.

Services
To provide engaging, varied and enriching learning experiences that improve outcomes for children. To provide a safe, stimulating environment where children are challenged and supported to become confident, independent learners. To provide an environment where children are encouraged to have a positive 'have a go' attitude so that they can develop the confidence, self-esteem and skills that will equip them for future learning.
We offer free 15 hour early education places for all 3 and 4 years olds and two year olds who are eligible. We also offer funded 30 hour places for 3 and 4 year olds for eligible families. Parents can apply for a place at anytime during the school year and don't have to wait until their child is two or three to apply, many of our parents register their children before their first birthday.
At Bilston Nursery School we recognise the role the school has in promoting the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs as defined by the governments 2011 Prevent Strategy. At Bilston Nursery School these values are promoted through the delivery of activities that promote and develop children's personal, social and emotional skills.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which was revised in 2014. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.
National data and research tells us that children eligible for free school meals tend to do less well, for example in 2014, 45% of children eligible for free school meals achieved the expected level at the end of the early years foundation stage compared with 64% of other children. The Early Years Pupil Premium will provide us with extra funding to close this gap.
