When presented with an opportunity to run our own holiday cottage letting business, our plans for a mid-life gap-year were put firmly on hold! The Cottage Tree seed was sown following a thought provoking meeting with a local estate agent, and an aim to give guests a fine selection of holiday homes in some of the most beautiful places throughout East Anglia.
The market town of Bury St Edmunds has a rich and diverse character; from the stunning Cathedral to the modern shopping centre. Dating back to 1080, Bury St Edmunds is a truly unique town. The ruins of the 11th Century Benedictine Abbey, within the beautiful Abbey gardens, are just a couple of minutes walk from the shopping areas and Georgian town squares.
Once the capital of the Kingdom of the East Angles with an international port as large as London and a population of 3000 Dunwich was a significant, wealthy town with six parish churches. During the 13th and 14th century Dunwich was punished by storm resulting in the decline of the once prosperous town.
Once a thriving Medieval wool town, Lavenham is famed for its beautifully preserved buildings, now home to an eclectic mix of galleries, shops, boutiques and some superb tearooms and restaurants. The perfect destination for a day out or longer stay. To stay in Lavenham is to step back in time and immerse yourself in a day-to-day life that feels a world away from the stresses of modernity.
Quintessentially English, full of character and quaint intrigue, Southwold is a remarkable town located on the Suffolk Heritage Coast.
