Gorse Covert Primary School
At Gorse Covert we believe children's Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education (SMSC) is just as important as academic success. Whilst we have special days and events to develop children's skills in these areas, it is also something we live and breathe on a daily basis.

Whenever there are opportunities to teach children about moral obligations or about how some cultures are different to ours, we will use those opportunities to further children's understanding. All our lessons and daily activities give children the chance to develop their social skills and we support them with those skills to ensure they have a positive feeling of 'belonging'.
Services
At Gorse Covert Primary School we endeavour to provide a challenging, broad and balanced curriculum leading to individual achievements and successes whilst recognising children's own unique traits. With a dedicated and caring staff, we provide a nurturing and safe environment where children can develop their resilience and self confidence.
Gorse Covert is the easternmost of the districts which form the town of Birchwood in Warrington. It is also the most easterly part of the Warrington urban area (though not of Warrington borough). It was formerly site 6 of the Royal Ordnance Factory at Risley. It is now a large, suburban residential area with a mixture of good quality housing.
Throughout the year, we organise 'House Days' which are around a particular theme. The children then work in House groups rather than year groups during the day on a range of activities. These House Days are very popular and it is wonderful to see the younger children being supported by the older children.
At Gorse Covert, we like to give our children a 'voice' and opportunities to make improvements to the school. We have a School Council who meet regularly and raise any issues they would like to see improved. Each class has 2 members on the Council who feedback views from their class. In 2020, our School Council worked together to gain the Silver Wise Up Award which recognises our work on anti-bullying and hate crime.
The school is part of a multi-academy trust, One Community Trust, but still retains some key responsibilities. It has delegated duties for appointing new governors, policy reviews, risk management, budget plan to support school improvement, agreeing staffing structure, vision and strategy, agreeing school priorities and improvement plans, headteacher performance management, staff appraisal procedures and pay progression.

I think 1 of the main thing now should be highly fast tracked in our primary school when they go back is mindfulness meditation lessons as the plan was to bring it in anyway.. WHY!? Because practising mindfulness reduces stress, get kids to understand and control there emotions and learn massively and quickly how to regulate, help with focus,… sleep, prevent anxiety, fear etc forming and that's just some of the the benefits from practising mindfulness and most of all.. it must be taught in the right way with fun, energetic with child psychology/ child development understanding when teaching

I went to this school and my parents thought I had Asperger syndrome but the school and headteacher ignored them and dismissed their concerns. I could have had help a lot earlier on if the teachers had fairly listened to our family. The headteacher patronised my parents in a way that made them feel like the headteacher was putting herself in a superior position and making it seem like my parents had no idea what they were talking about. This was incredibly hurtful and was never apologised for.
My friend was bullied by a teacher for the year she was in her class and later found out that for several
