The idyllic village of Reeth lies where two of our favourite Dales meet - Swaledale and Arkengarthdale -making it an extremely popular place for visitors, who spend hours soaking up the vibes of tranquillity that this small village exurbs. Situated within a barrier of hills you can soon forget the rest of the world.
Fremington is a pretty hamlet situated in Swaledale, and is divided into High and Low Fremington. Low Fremington is located along the stretch of road between Reeth and Grinton. It is difficult to tell where village ends and the next begin due to the close proximity of the three villages. High Fremington is a selection of cottages that lead to the renowned Fremington Edge which attracts hundreds of visitors every year.
Low Row is a peaceful village in Swaledale which stretches along the main road 3 miles from Reeth between Healaugh and Gunnerside. The Coast to Coast walk passes very close by the village but for those that are not so keen on such a challenge, there are many less strenuous walks in the area. For example, there is a beautiful walk that takes you nearly all the way to Grinton on the banks of the River Swale at the foot of the valley.
Keld is a remote hamlet, home to a small rural community situated in Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park near to the County Durham border and is either the first or last village in the Yorkshire Dales depending on your direction of travel.
The name Keld derives from the Viking word Kelda meaning a spring - a laughable representation of the River Swale as it rushes over four beautiful waterfalls, Kisdon Force, East Gill Force, Catrake Force and Wain Wath Force. All of which are a short walk from Keld in any direction close to the limestone gorge on the River Swale.
