We have achieved the School of Excellence Award through the Road 2 Recovery Mark here at Whitburn Village Primary School! This term, our gymnastics club have been working towards their British Gymnastics Proficiency Awards. Some of the children who joined the club more recently are very close to achieving their first awards too, and we will keep working towards these in the new year.
At Whitburn Village Primary School we believe that learning is a personal journey for each child and teacher, building on knowledge and deepening understanding. We endeavour to encourage independent learning through a varied and vast creative curriculum, valuing the child, their interests and achievements, which we believe in turn produces a confident, well rounded individual.
This week in school, the children across Key Stage One and Two have been learning about the voting system. The children then all voted for who they would to represent their class on the school council using official ballot boxes. Our School Council have worked with all of the children in their class to come up with experiences they would like to complete, both at school and in our local area, before the children leave Year 6.
From 2011 schools were allocated additional funds known as 'Pupil Premium' to provide additional support or resources for children from low-income families who were eligible for free school meals or who had been looked after continuously for more than six months. A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the Armed Forces, children who are looked after or children who have been adopted.
Our curriculum ensures learning is effective, exciting and above all, allows the children to explore the world they live in and prepare for the opportunities and challenges of life in the 21st century. Whitburn Village Primary aims to provide a curriculum that is engaging, balanced and relevant.
