Stretton St Matthew's C O F E Primary School
Through our teaching of history at St Matthew's, it is our intent to inspire our pupils' curiosity by encouraging them to discover past events. We hope to help pupils grow in independence and take ownership of their own learning, by understanding how the past has impacted on our lives today.

History helps our pupils to gain an understanding of the process of change as well as the diversity and challenges of societies, both past and present and even looking towards the future. It gives children a sense of their own identity and ensures the progressive development of historical concepts, knowledge, skills of enquiry, analysis, interpretation and problem solving.

Ensuring missed learning from the previous year group is identified and incorporated into "catch-up" planning. New learning techniques are explored to ensure children learn more effectively to ensure more than adequate coverage of new learning. Knowledge organisers are implemented to ensure children understand what the crucial knowledge is within each scheme of work.
We have worked, played and learnt with digital tools that were unimaginable less than a year ago. Our schools, however, are only starting to catch up. Education remains one of the last sectors to avoid digital disruption and this was evident when schools were forced to close with very little notice and no contingency plans in place for remote learning.
We are delighted to welcome visits to school from parents and carers of our new Reception Class 2022. If you have any queries please contact the school office and we will be delighted to help you. Please come along, bring your children and meet our wonderful EYFS staff who will be happy to answer any questions you may have about our school and the admissions process.
