The Orange Tree
After a challenging time following our re-opening, we have decided to continue to operate al fresco dining throughout the summer. There are many reasons for this, but primarily we believe this is the safest and most appropriate way to serve our customers at this time. Many of you have commented on the improved facilities; we have invested heavily in gazebos, parasols and now have 20+ heaters throughout the garden and terraces.

We hope that you understand and very much hope you enjoy your visit. Look forward to seeing you soon. Due to unprecedented demand we can only take phone bookings at limited times. If you would like to book a table please call us between the hours of 10am and 12pm and 3pm and 5pm. Or alternatively email us on email@theorangetreethornham.co.uk with your preferred date, time number of diners and mobile phone number.

The Good Pub Guide 2016 Crowns The Orange Tree, Norfolk Dining Pub Of The Year, 4th year running. The Good Pub Guide is a national institution - a bible for pub-goers. Published this week the bestselling guide is divided into counties so you can easily find the best pubs wherever you may be. Every county has an annually updated shortlist of main entries which have all been fully inspected and carefully selected to warrant their place.
We are thrilled that the awards just keep on coming for our food. Our kitchen team are constantly striving to devise innovative new dishes, as well as adding new twists to age old pub classics. In particular we are well known for our local seafood dishes - a passion which won us the award for 'Great British Seafood Pub Chef of the Year' for the Wild Seabass and Norfolk Razor Clams dish.
Our canine friends are always welcome in the bar of The Orange Tree and they even have their own doggy menu to choose from! Delicacies include pigs ears, washed down with gravy! Water bowls are always available. Dogs are welcome in our ground floor rooms at an additional charge of 10 per stay. If you plan to bring your best friend, please double check at the time of booking to ensure you reserve one of these rooms.
Six ensuite rooms, all of which have been refurbished to a high standard. Rooms 1-4 are double only with en suite bathroom, rooms 5-6 can be either double or twin and we have one family room, which has a separate bedroom, with bunk beds and it's own TV, affording privacy for both parents and children alike.
Thornham offers an excellent base for visitors to explore the beautiful North Norfolk coastline and if you enjoy the outdoor life there is plenty to do in Thornham itself. Stroll out to the harbour amid the creeks of Brancaster bay where there are still working fishing boats. This peaceful harbour was once a smuggler's haven.

A lovely location and the food was really good - superb breakfast and evening meal was excellent
However we stayed in room 4 which is very tired and in need of refurb (I am led to believe that is on the cards for 2022). And after a mix up with keys (we had to have the cleaners key due to room 4 key being mislaid) we had an unexpected visitor at 1am !! - letting himself into our room with his key which was given to him by mistake ! He should have been room 3 but a mistake was made earlier in the day. Disappointed with the owner/managers response to this, however the staff at breakfast time the

Went to the OT to check out the menu while in Norfolk for a couple of days. Not really our sort of thing especially as the 'vegetarian' risotto had a parmesan crisp with it. As parmesan isn't ever veggie, either the risotto isn't veggie (I suspect there was also cheese in it) or it isn't parmesan. If the latter, let your customers know as that would actually be reassuring. Nice pint though :-) Bar area is definitely our favourite spot over the formal dining area behind.

This was our first time back after lockdown and it didn’t disappoint. After a limited and simple lockdown menu the Orange tree has returned to it former glory.
The food was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. It’s not a huge menu and I prefer that. It’s a sure sign that the food is being prepared properly and there’s excellent variety so you’re bound to find something you love.
The wine list is nicely set out to help you select something that will suit your preferences. This is very helpful.
The service also deserves a mention. At this time where every restaurant is struggling

Room 6 for 4 nights. Really nice staff. Very welcoming of dogs. Great meal on our first night, booked the table in advance as the best times go quickly. The breakfast choices are good. There was just one morning the scrambled eggs were over done but good coffee makes up a morning. Unfortunately Tuesdays are bin day and the lorry spilt some extremely smelly food liquid right next to our "patio" area. We asked for it to be cleared up and a small tub of bleach was poured on the large spill. I'm sure if the restaurant hadn't been so busy, more may been done, but it wasn't and our room filled with flies

We ate here today (9/9/21) - the food was superb! The staff were also really attentive and friendly - we have been here since 6/9/21 and not found a lot of staff locally to be too friendly however the staff went above and beyond at The Orange Tree and showed a real interest to our 10 month old son who also loved the attention!
So thank you - your service really stood out, we had a lovely lunch, will highly recommend and be back!

Beyond excellent- food was beautifully done and elevates itself well above usual gastopub standards without being pretentious. Staff were incredibly friendly & attentive but not intrusive, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Whenever I come to the coast it will be a definite stop, and would recommend to anyone.

Fantastic food. I've been coming here for years and the quality and service is outstanding. A great variety on the menu, so there really is something for everyone, regardless of age or mood. Great drinks menu too, though bring your specs, as it's so extensive, the font is tiny!!
Currently all dining is outside, but there are huge parasols and fabulous heaters, so you'll always be snug and dry.
Portions are pretty huge, but try to order pudding if you can, as they are pretty spectacular! Very highly recommended

Really beautiful setting and atmosphere.
Excellently managed seating arrangement during the covid era.
One fault that we did feel, was the minimal vegan & vegetarian options. They've made a decent effort to serve vegan & vegetarian food, including a specific section on the menu, but it only includes mains, with no starter or dessert options.
Other than that, it was a beautiful meal. Staff were so kind and welcoming.
