Services
St. Mary's Nursery is situated in a purpose built unit with its own facilities and playground. The nursery is financially independent and is run as a registered charity. We are run by a committee drawn from parents past and present and co-opted people who have experience relevant to the nursery. All parents are invited to join our committee and, therefore, have a say in the financial and everyday running of the nursery.
We are a small nursery with just seven members of staff. The manager has achieved a BA Honors in Early years and one full time member of staff is trained to NVQ level 4, another full time member of staff who is working towards her Level 3 this should be completed in September, and two part time staff members who has a Foundation Degree in Early Years Studies and one with a level 3. We have a part time lunch assistant.
The nursery is currently licensed by Ofsted to provide 24 places per session for children aged between three and five. In order to claim these funded hours you will need to do nothing other than let us have a copy of your child's birth certificate - we will claim the funding on your behalf. We currently run a six term year as operated by St. Mary's primary school and holidays and in service days usually run in line with theirs.
As a nursery we are keen to encourage participation by parents. Nursery staff are always happy to discuss the development of your child and will regularly invite you in to look at their assessment records and talk about their progress. They are also available at the end of your child's session to respond to your concerns or just to talk about their day.
At St. Mary's Nursery we recognise that children learn in different ways and at different rates. We place value on all areas of learning and ensure that we allow all children to develop at their own pace. We operate a key person system and children are placed in mixed age groups, and within those groups staff ensure that children work, play and learn at their own speed.
