Nepal, land of the mystifying Himalayas, birthplace of Lord Buddha and home of Brave Gurkha soldiers, is blessed with scenic splendor and natural beauty. A small landlocked country between India and China, the country is rich in ethnic diversity and cultural heritage. It is home to many tribal races, living in different regions, with their own unique culture, traditional customs, language and dialects.
As a result, the taste of Nepalese cuisine differs from region to region within the country. The Yak & Yeti( Gurkha) Restaurant is first Nepalese restaurant in York city, North Yorkshire. We provide you with high quality food by only using the best ingredients prepared with love and an unsurpassed passion for food.

Beautiful food in a lovely place with friendly attentive staff. We've never had Nepalese food before but have looked at this restaurant for at least 10yrs. Today we decided to try it and we are not disappointed. Really unique flavours (cross between chinese/indian/thai) from the starters to the mains and they were all fantastic. Sure we'll be back in the future.

Came here a couple of days ago for dinner. It was my first taste of Nepalese cuisine and I was not disappointed! It is very similar to Indian food. I had a set meal (a metal plate filled with curry, daal, rice, poppadom, and various other bits) which is like an Indian Thali. Food was very tasty and I enjoyed it. One star knocked off for price (for York, I thought it was quite expensive) and also for cash only.

Stunning food at great prices!
Starter were spicy buffalo MOMO, the flavour was "banging" (my wife's words) & steamed lamb MOMO the minced lamb was very good.
Mains were just as excellent I had the Gurkha pork curry, maybe best I ever had andy wife pork dish was mouth watering.
I also had the Gurkha spice tea (black) it's like mulled wine without the wine, it nice. I also hah the homemade lemonade which was perfect to cleans my pallet. We both had the Nepal liquor coffee to finish, it's very strong (not sure where the coffee is lol).
Overall, I highly recommend!

Have eaten Nepalese food in many locations in the UK, from restaurants, to Military camps, and even home cooked from an old neighbour. This was the best I've ever had. Well worth a visit to this lovely little restaurant. Staff were very friendly, service was quick and the prices fair. Will definitely book a table again next time we're in York.

This was the first time we'd returned since our first visit shortly after the restaurant opened. The decor has improved a lot since then, but the food is still just as good. Our friends made their first visit with us and they also enjoyed their experience.
The only downside is that payment is by cash only; no payment cards accepted. This really needs to be changed, especially as even market stall holders accept credit/debit card payments.

A real treat for me as I'm pretty picky and don't like spicy. I had the Yak and Yeti Chow Mien special and my husband had a pork curry dish. We had Mo:Mo for an appetizer, steamed with pork. The dipping sauce, probably a chutney was too spicy for me but other than that it was lovely. Great service and atmosphere.

WOW! I lived in Delhi for a year and enjoyed many momos. There was this fantastic cart outside my flat which I visited weekly for supper. Since leaving Delhi, I have not found momos in very many places and certainly not as delicious as the ones in Delhi. UNTIL NOW - in all places -YORK. I am sad I am only in York for one day but am delighted and grateful to have found Yak and the Yeti. They delivered the momos and delicious veg and buffalo thoughtfully presented and the perfect dinner to follow up a day of Normans, Vikings and Romans. Thank you Yak and Yeti for taking my tastebuds back to my time

I passed this place several weeks ago and the aroma was amazing. So during the most recent visits to York I had earmarked this as a must visit as I hadn't tried Nepalese cuisine before - but every time I was down the place was closed. Drat. but never mind, plenty of other options locally.
I needed to be in York on Sunday night for an early start and it was opened - Hurrah! You need to be able bodied as the stairs are narrow and quite steep and slightly dingy but I'm here for the grub.
The first thing that struck me was the area set aside for floor level dining - very bo-ho Ya. A low
