In 1886 my great-grandfather bought the Gretna Estate which included farming land and the tiny hamlet of Gretna Green. One of the buildings in the hamlet was the blacksmith's workshop, already renowned for its romantic history as a haven for runaway lovers since 1754.

We attended a friend's wedding which was held at the black smiths and smiths hotel, both venues were great. The hotel rooms however were very run down and tired, window seals gone allowing all motorway traffic to be heard through night, asked to be moved but reception could only provide a one bed room not family which was no good for our family, on the second night neighbouring guest clearly drunk and asleep left the TV on so loud was clearly heard, called reception.. No joy, banging on the door for half hour... No joy, walked down to reception two young lads again not very helpful, one o clock

Lovely big room with a very comfortable bed but bathroom a bit tatty,not much lighting in the room,not enough plug sockets and none at all at the bedside.Tv far too small for size of room.
Food was very nice but service was extremely slow,same at the bar,very slow service.

I fantastic venue, for a wedding! Yeah it's more expensive than the local pub but, we had a great night at our daughter & son-in-law's wedding. Really friendly staff, good drink selection, great food, they even rang taxis for freinds & family, in a lovely new styled clean & tidy, modern building & the rooms are great too. 👍🏻
