The Castillo family is one of the oldest restaurant families in Central Texas still in business today serving up South-of-the-Border cuisine for more than 85 years. Family patriarch Antonio P. Castillo, Sr. started the Castillo's restaurant legacy when he opened The Aztec Cafe in the early 1930s in downtown Waco.
The Aztec introduced authentic Tex-Mex cuisine to the area, and quickly became a popular place to dine. From 1935 to 1948, The Aztec Cafe served delicious Tex-Mex, and was popular with many Baylor students due to the dance hall in the back of the restaurant nicknamed "The Patio."

This is one of our favorite places to eat in town for lunch or dinner. Their Mexican Martini's are fantastic, & the food is always great, fresh & very tasty! They have live music on some weekends, and really good, friendly bartenders. I highly recommend checking them out if you are looking for a great place to eat, & hangout with some friends!

Had no problem with the food are the service the last time I was there. However the music was incredible LOUD. There were 3 of us and we all agreed. We asked the server if they could turn it down and the server immediately said they had several complaints about how LOUD it was. The server said they were not allowed to turn it down. Apparently only the owner has control over the Music. I've heard people say it's to get people out faster which to me that sounds crazy. Although I have to admit we were ready to leave because it was unbearable LOUD. The owner needs to listen when several people are

I first ate at La Fiesta in 1971, eating there a lot the next 4 years while attending Baylor. The food was amazing, the salsa was very hot and unique. Having married a woman from Waco years later, I continued to eat at La Fiesta every time I went to Waco. To me, it was the standard for cheese enchiladas. I would buy salsa and get an enchilada dinner to go when leaving town. Well, it became a huge success evidenced by expansion and really cool decor. Monday I was very sad because my 50 year loyalty is done. I ordered cheese enchiladas and inside was process cheese... the only real cheese was sprinkled
