With just six paddleboards and a passion to get people out on the water Mersea Island Watersports began life in 2013 and within weeks we had to expand our fleet to cope with the growing demand and it hasn't stopped since! As watersports fanatics ourselves, nothing is more exciting to us than sharing our enthusiasm for all things watersports and getting people out on the water with the knowledge they need to be safe and have fun.
We offer a variety of lessons, clubs and events, from complete beginners to those looking to improve their skills; from as young as six to septuagenarians and everyone in between there is something for everyone. All our lessons include equipment hire, buoyancy aid and wetsuit rental and meet the highest standards on safety.
There is a reason why Paddle Boarding (SUP) is the fastest growing water sport and that's because it is great fun and very accessible; you can do this whatever your age, weight or water experience. It is the perfect group activity but also an amazing way to just switch off and relax as well as increasing your core strength and general fitness.
Windsurfing is our true love. Its fast, exciting and not too difficult to learn. Here at MIW we teach beginner all the way up to advanced level windsurfing. With the use of a support boat and our fantastic location we can go from calm, flat, enclosed water for learning to windy open water for blasting around.
Kayaking is possibly the most accessible way for anyone to get on the water, be it alone or in a group. We have partnered up with the wonderful Mersea Island Tales and have taken management of their lovely new fleet of kayaks. These kayaks were purchased for the Mersea Island Tales Educational Trust, therefore every time one of these boats touches the water money is donated to the trust.

I surprised my wife with an introductory paddle boarding lesson at MIW. The conditions were great and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience with our instructor Dan, a really nice guy who clearly loves what he does. We are regular visitors to the area but it was such a novel way to see the Essex coast. We’ll be taking our children with us next time! We highly recommend and visit to MIW.

First time paddle boarding for my friends and I. We were all a little nervous and one friend had opted out but after seeing the board and the water decided to join in with no regrets. As a group of non-confident swimmers Mark was a great instructor, reassuring and quick to come a help us when we fell into the water or drifted off (which happened a lot🤣🤣). Definitely will be back for more lessons (cause we need it).

Had a great time canoeing round the creeks.
Hired a double sit on top canoe and spent a magical couple of hours padding round the harbour and creeks spotting wildlife.
The team are also very kind as we arrived late after a nightmare journey. They were understanding and helped us relax into a great afternoon on the coast. Thanks 🙏
Definitely recommend this to anyone heading to Mersea which is a jewel on the Essex coast.

We had a beginners course with Dan yesterday and what a fab introduction it was. MIW have a wonderful easy approach which is both informal and thorough. Dan adapted the 2 hours accordingly to suit all 3 of us thus spending more time where required helping with his advice and encouragement.

As a total beginner I have just had two fantastic SUP lessons with Dan this weekend - great tuition and lots of fun (even in some challenging conditions today). MIW were super accommodating, adding in my two boys (8 and 12) to the second session at short notice and tailoring appropriately. All staff are super friendly and helpful - creating a really welcoming space. A fantastic local business - highly recommend!

I attended MIW for the first time ever today with my children age 9 & 7. I wanted to say a massive thank you for an amazing experience! The staff were so kind, helpful and patient! Although the winds were too strong to continue it didn’t put a dampener on our experience and the staff did everything they could to include the children in having a go despite the conditions. I’d recommend MIW to anyone and we will be returning on a less windy day! Thanks once again.

We were first time visitors to 'Mersea Island WaterSports' today, and cannot praise them highly enough! Customer service is 5*. Very personable and professional. We phoned and booked same day. Really good with their set up and lay out - social distancing, lots of cleaning and disinfecting of life jackets! The children were thrilled with today, we will definitely be returning to wind surf in a few weeks time for a birthday. A lovely business with loads to offer 👌👌
