What is Physiotherapy? It is literally 'physical therapy' - a therapy focused on the physical aspects of life, i.e. movement and function. These basic features of life are often affected by injury, illness or disability, and they don't have to involve significant trauma to make a big impact on a person's life.
Massage therapy has many benefits, not just in the 'feel good factor' you experience afterwards, but also affirmed in the clinically researched evidence. Stimulate the lymph system, which is responsible for filtering toxins out of your tissues (Beck, 1994, Holey & Cook, 2011). On a more temporal bent, patients often ask me what effect it's having, how it works and how long will any benefits last?.
Medical acupuncture or 'dry needling' works with the body's natural analgesic mechanisms to promote tissue healing and pain relief without the need for medication. Acupuncture is used at Arcadia to reduce pain and potentially ease deep 'knots' in muscle tissue. This is an effective starting point for relief and rehabilitation of lower back pain, tension headaches and achilles tendonitis, for example.
When tested under load it demonstrates a similar strength to steel, around 2000lbs per square inch. Because of rigorous studies that demonstrate the tensile strength of fascia, it becomes unclear how we as therapists can influence it, 'release' it, or get it to relax. There are simply not yet enough clear and conclusive studies on both sides to have a definitive answer.

I wish I gone to see Kathryn sooner! Issues with pelvic floor health were impacting my every day life. Not only was Kathryn empathetic, knowledgable and skilled; she has also been able to help. I found Kathryn to have a kind approach and she was very comprehensive in her explanations and guidance. Kathryn is very thorough and able to devise an effective and achievable plan. She also took the time to listen - really listen. I wholeheartedly recommend Kathryn.

My menopause specialist recommended Kathryn and I’m so thankful she did! Kathryn’s fabulous advice and guidance means I do not need to visit Kathryn in person for now, but I will definitely book to see her again. Kathryn is so knowledgeable in all things Women’s Health, her thorough yet gentle examinations should be recommended to all women as a self care package throughout their menopausal years! I can’t Thank Kathryn enough and I highly recommend!

Kathryn helped me understand what was happening to my muscles after I dislocated my knee a few months ago, which had left me in constant pain and unable to do exercise. She taught me some techniques to treat the knee problem, observed my movements and gave instant relief to the pain (among other things). Coming to see her was a really important step to regain my quality of life.

Kat literally saved my London marathon dreams earlier this year when I got struck with an injury 3 weeks before. She listened to all my symptoms, and talked me through all possible scenarios of what had happened, and what could happen. She administered acupuncture, and it was literally like a miracle cure! I went onto the run the marathon completely pain free, meaning my training had not been wasted! Thank you Kat, I will forever be in your debt!

I found Kathryn empathetic, thorough and professional. I went to see her last autumn and over a period of a few weeks she helped me to understand my pelvic floor and the importance of being able to relax it. It was only after I'd achieved this that we moved on to pelvic floor exercises. I had never felt confident that I was doing these right and Kathryn's patient approach helped me to feel what I needed to do. I really appreciated that she sent follow-up emails after my appointments with useful links and re-capping what I needed to do before the next appointment.

I am an Osteopath. I first became aware if Kathryn about 3 years ago when she moved into a room close to my clinic. She had taken the time to contact me upfront to see if I would have any objection to her moving in. I was stunned by her open nature and her commitment to do what is right both in terms of her business and her clients. Since this time I have taken a few treatments from Kathryn. I am always impressed by her knowledge and her openness to new ideas. She demonstrates the rare ability to use evidence based approaches where available and fill in the gaps with reasoning tailored to the individual

I've been seeing Kathryn regularly for a year now and she's by far the best physio I've been to. She has magic hands and has been so helpful both before and during my pregnancy with any aches and pains I might have. She really got me interested in acupuncture as well, and it worked wonders on my sciatic back issues which I had been suffering from on and off for years. She's also one of the friendliest people I know, I recommend her to everyone!
